How Do the "Black Eyed Peas" manage to sell any records?
Can anyone really call that music? That was just awful. MrG and I were discombobulated over that display last night. It was like a bunch of garbling and hooting to kind of sort of music...I guess.

3. Check out these lyrics, though:
Where Is The Love

What's wrong with the world, mama
People livin' like they ain't got no mamas
I think the whole world addicted to the drama
Only attracted to things that'll bring you trauma
Overseas, yeah, we try to stop terrorism
But we still got terrorists here livin'
In the USA, the big CIA
The Bloods and The Crips and the KKK
But if you only have love for your own race
Then you only leave space to discriminate
And to discriminate only generates hate
And when you hate then you're bound to get irate, yeah
Madness is what you demonstrate
And that's exactly how anger works and operates
Man, you gotta have love just to set it straight
Take control of your mind and meditate
Let your soul gravitate to the love, y'all, y'all

People killin', people dyin'
Children hurt and you hear them cryin'
Can you practice what you preach
And would you turn the other cheek

Father, Father, Father help us
Send some guidance from above
'Cause people got me, got me questionin'
Where is the love (Love)

Where is the love (The love)
Where is the love (The love)
Where is the love
The love, the love

It just ain't the same, always unchanged
New days are strange, is the world insane
If love and peace is so strong
Why are there pieces of love that don't belong
Nations droppin' bombs
Chemical gasses fillin' lungs of little ones
With ongoin' sufferin' as the youth die young
So ask yourself is the lovin' really gone
So I could ask myself really what is goin' wrong
In this world that we livin' in people keep on givin'
in
Makin' wrong decisions, only visions of them dividends
Not respectin' each other, deny thy brother
A war is goin' on but the reason's undercover
The truth is kept secret, it's swept under the rug
If you never know truth then you never know love
Where's the love, y'all, come on (I don't know)
Where's the truth, y'all, come on (I don't know)
Where's the love, y'all

People killin', people dyin'
Children hurt and you hear them cryin'
Can you practice what you preach
And would you turn the other cheek

Father, Father, Father help us
Send some guidance from above
'Cause people got me, got me questionin'
Where is the love (Love)

Where is the love (The love)
Where is the love (The love)
Where is the love
The love, the love

I feel the weight of the world on my shoulder
As I'm gettin' older, y'all, people gets colder
Most of us only care about money makin'
Selfishness got us followin' our wrong direction
Wrong information always shown by the media
Negative images is the main criteria
Infecting the young minds faster than bacteria
Kids wanna act like what they see in the cinema
Yo', whatever happened to the values of humanity
Whatever happened to the fairness in equality
Instead in spreading love we spreading animosity
Lack of understanding, leading lives away from unity
That's the reason why sometimes I'm feelin' under
That's the reason why sometimes I'm feelin' down
There's no wonder why sometimes I'm feelin' under
Gotta keep my faith alive till love is found

Now ask yourself
Where is the love?
Where is the love?
Where is the love?
Where is the love?

People killin', people dyin'
Children hurt and you hear them cryin'
Can you practice what you preach
And would you turn the other cheek

Father, Father, Father help us
Send some guidance from above
'Cause people got me, got me questionin'
Where is the love (Love)

Where is the love (The love)
Where is the love (The love)
Where is the love (The love)

Where is the love (The love)
Where is the love (The love)
Where is the love (The love)

i'm not trying to convince you to like them, i don't care either way, i don't like them much myself (though i do get real defensive about hip hop in general) but there was really no point to this; if you don't like them so be it but why make a big deal out of it?

The answers abound

As for BEP's... they're in my head often as well... so I think that phenomena is the cause of success!

22. It's a cultural thing.
I think it is great music! It just isn't for everyone. (Much like Charlie Daniels and that other music isn't for me) You just have to respect other people's preferences and move on. I suspect there has been a time or two in your day that someone didn't like your music. But calling it garbling and hooting probably wouldn't have made you too receptive to their opinion.

Just my two cents.

Trash can live anywhere. Some of the worst "trailer trash" I ever knew lived in the most expensive home the county.

Heck, I'd say the worst trailer trash in the country right now is living in the White House.

Trash is a frame of mind.

23. A lot of really great hip hop doesn't translate well to the stage.
I love love love Tribe Called Quest, but when I saw them open for the Beastie Boys in a huge basketball arena, they sucked eggs.

BEP is a great, socially conscious band. I liked them a lot more before they added the "hot" white chick, though. It felt kind of like a sellout. Check out their amazing debut album - Behind The Front. Here's a review from Allmusic:

Black Eyed Peas bring some positivity and fun back into hip-hop. Musically there is almost no realm this group does not touch — right from the jump, the stylistic innocence of "Fallen Up," complete with striking guitar licks, sums up what BEP is all about. They attack the so-called hardcore MCs playing the role of dress-up: "I see you try to dis our function by stating that we can't rap/Is it cuz we don't wear Tommy Hilfiger or baseball caps?/We don't use dollars to represent/We just use our innocence and talent." The wonderfully crafted, old-school-influenced first single, "Joints and Jam," is perfect for the summertime frame of mind. With "Karma" they explore the notion of reaping what you sow. "Love Won't Wait" is a simultaneous infusion of R&B and hip-hop, as the group deals with a deteriorating romance. But the undisputed champ of this recording is "Positivity" — you can't help but reminisce about yesteryear's MCs kicking conscious lyrics to educate the hip-hop masses. "Nowadays it's hard to make a living/But easy to make a killing/Cuz people walk around with just one inch of feeling/I feeling nauseated from your evil drug dealing/Blood spilling, the definition of top billing." In all honesty, the MCs who make up BEP — Taboo, Will, and A8 — are not going to be confused as being super-lyrical by any means. But their chemistry and insightful, original topic matter is used with enough efficiency to mask that slight blemish.

I'm big into their music too. Again, I agree with the whole Black Eyed Peas situation. I liked them a hell of a lot better during their debut album. The current cycle of singles they have are just pure garbage in my opinion. I'm not sure if its just the chic or their whole current vibe. I just cannot get into anything they released now.

That "where is the love" song drives my nerves to no end.

They're especially good compared to the majority of no-talent hacks that dominate hip-hop now (Ja Rule, Nelly, all the bling-bling, "bitches and hoes" crowd). BEP are one of the few groups that has some talent, and also has a unique style. I used to like the majority of rap/hip-hop, but about the only ones I like from this generation are BEP, Outkast, Eminem, and Kanye.

to say that is good. I don't like a lot of the rap that is out there now, I prefer the old school and political stuff. I think often you can find hints of music you are familiar with and something to relate to after you have heard songs a few times. For instance, the guys that won the big Grammy last year- Outkast - are kind of fun, with lots of soul- type influences thrown in.

Every time I've seen them live I've been like please, never do that.

Their radio version of "Hey Mama" is AWWWEEESSOOMMEE. Even if the lyrics are not as deep as I'd like.

And "Let's Get it Started" has grown on me.

I think they're a fun multicultural group. They are extremely urban as well, which can be off-putting to some.

Can you practice what you preach
And would you turn the other cheek

Father, Father, Father help us
Send us some guidance from above
'Cause people got me, got me questionin'

46. The Black Eyed Peas are great....
but they did sound bad last night. I think it had a lot to do with the sound system being used and the obviously terrible acoustics. The bad acoustics impacts a band like the Peas that uses multiple harmonies more than other performers.

I'm not even a big fan of hip-hop, but the Pease are just great. I got hooked on them b/c of "Where is the Love," and then discovered the rest of their music.

52. Black Eye Peas Suuuuuuuuck!!!!!
I cant stand them theyre nothing but a bunch of sellouts they're older stuff is ok but ever since that "Elephunk" album came out (or whatever that piece of shit is called) they've been garbage. I mean they have the stupidest song titles such as "Lets get retarded" or "Shut Up" WTF??? Are they in middle school or something?? I'd rather listen to 50 Cent and he sucks to. :puke:
