So get a load of this crap.
The other night I was dining with a fine lady at a wonderful little indian restaurant. I mean this place was the fucking shiznit. I would sell my soul to Kali for just a wiff of their chicken tikka tandoori. And if there is a heaven, it is , imho, filled to the brim with mango lassi. The atmosphere, which I like to call the cuminosphere, is always warm and inviting, and the wait staff, being unamerican, is always exceedingly courteous and kind. This is the kind of place that has me thinking of taking my ruthless, mad scientist ass and joining the peace corp and going to India, I shit you not, just so I can eat authentic indian food everyday.

So like I said, I'm dining with my lady friend, enjoying our garlic nan, and in comes this couple with their two boys, I'd say nine-ish. Now it happens that these people are carrying, hang on...

cough! cough! haaaack, pthu!

...two large bags filled with McDonalds take out and drinks. You know, for the kids. We're not even talking happy meals, but double quarter pound Mcrefriedcrisco nuggets. Even the six year old girl from an adjacent table turned from her vegetable koorma and gave them the what-the-fuck stare that only a sx year old girl can muster.

Not only did they greatly offend our gracious hosts, who never did anything to them, and incidentally, may very well have been their mother in a past life, not only did they needlessly upset why woman, not only did they obviously commit a despiccable act of public child abuse, they fucked up my cuminosphere! And any PCB laden fry oil that can overpower that much indian cuisine contains more concentrated evil than that smouldering turd at the end of Time Bandits.

BASTARDS!

6. India doesn't, they love us quite well and it has nothing to do with the
IT job migration. They admire our culture and do a fantastic job of striking a balance between ours and theirs.

4. I take it you aren't parents. My INDIAN husband and I do that at our
favorite Indian restaurant when the kid isn't in the mood (which he usually is). Generally we are with his brother and SIL and my niece and nephew, complete with HMs as well.

And if you'd reacted that way to us, my hubby would be happy to take a couple of Punjabi waiters and together, teach you some Punjabi hospitality.

You don't have to embrace it, but lighten up. You might have had a miserable dining experience if the kids were forced to eat something they just didn't want.

11. Hint - Leave the child home.
I *am* a parent, and taking food into a resturant like that is self centered and in very bad taste. Don't blame others if your child doesn't behave appropriately, teach your child to eat what's on the menu and not throw a tantrum when they don't get exactly what they want. If they refuse to cooperate, they should be excluded from eating out with you at that resturant rather than forcing others to endure your parental shortcomings and your child's lack of social etiquette.

14. Oh yeah? Well my husband is jewish!
So if your kids come into his favorite kosher deli eating their bacon wrapped pork chops he'll teach you a thing or two about yiddish hospitality!

5. Could've been worse...
You could have been treated to a spectacle of poor parenting (like you weren't already?) that would have culminated in some kid screeching "I'm not eating that! It looks like DOOKIE!!"...

If the crumbsnatchers aren't old enough to have their culinary horizons broadened, they should have been left w/a sitter and their Mc-Crappy meals...

Ever see a 5-yr-old go through a whole dish of Kalamata olives?

13. GAH!!!
What the f*ck? Why do people assume kids will only eat hamburgers and fries?!

<Rant>
For his second birthday we told Riley he got to pick the restaurant to go to. He chose an excellent Indian restaurant, where he devoured a samosa with tamarind sauce and some channa masala. (This is the kid whose first solid food was baba ghanouj.)

Kids who are exposed to the cuisines of many cultures will like them. Food doesn't have to be simplistic in its taste to appeal to children.

16. Maharaja Indian Cuisine- Bellingham, Washington.
Across the street from the mall, near where the old Viking Twin used to be.

We were just passing through though. Haven't been a Bellinghamster for awhile. Which is one awhile too long.

17. I just knew it had to be a Maharaja!
My favorite is the Maharaja in West Seattle, on California Street. They have the ultimate garlic naan.

18. Shut up and eat it.
That's what I tell my kid, very calmly, when she begins to whine about a new food, or really anything unfamiliar. After the age of four or so, there have been few, if any, nervous breakdowns when faced with bamboo shoots or okra. I don't even bother with Happy Meals at all; she stopped asking ME for them a long time ago.

You know what? It's led to a very sweet, very pleasant, very open-minded little kid, someone whom I'm not afraid to take to my local Indian restaraunt.

WHY ARE SOME PEOPLE SO FUCKING AFRAID TO SAY "NO" TO THEIR OWN GODDAMNED CHILDREN?
