Anyone else think Philly's 2 minute drill sucked?
I am a Redskin fan, and being so I was rooting for New England against Philly. I was struck, however, at Philly's seeming lack of a sense of urgency with more than 5 minutes in the game, just taking their time to get to the line of scrimmage, dipping and dunking some before they finally figured, "hey we better score". They probably wouldn't have had to go for a onsides kick attempt if they had some pep in their step.

I would have been highly pissed if I were an Eagle fan, waited 4 years to get to the superbowl, to have them basically look like they thought the game was lost by sloppy clock management.

Did they not think of going to the no huddle??

2. I thought it was awful too
At the very least they could have gone no-huddle, or run routes near the sideline to get out ot bounds. Like you said, they could have easily scored quickly, had a regular kickoff, and then used their timeouts on the Patriots drive. It was asking too much to ask them to go 60 yards (for a FG) with no timeouts left, especially against a good defense.

8. Yep!
It seemed like they were resigned to the fact that they were going to lose.

Owens played much better than I expected coming off that injury, though.

15. TO did play very well
I'm not a big fan of his antics, but the man is a very good football player and is all business once he steps on the field. I thought he'd be more of a decoy for Motormouth and Pinkston, and was very surprised to see him catch that many.

20. No huddle shot gun against NE?
Why that's how the Rams almost came back to 'em the first Super Bowl. No team is smart enough to remember stuff like that!

And the Eagles have a very nimble QB, probably win that way.

3. Absolutely
there time management was terrible... it was like Mc Nabb wasn't aware of the clock.... a few times his team mates wanted to get lined up but he kept pulling them back to the huddle... I think he was trying to make sure they did things right but with time running out you just have to take a risk.

If they wanted to huddle they should have called a second play in case the first was unsuccessful.

4. Maybe the game was fixed?
Anything's possible. I thought the 2:00 drill was terrible, but I'm not an expert by any means. They should at least have tried a few 30 yard passes to the sidelines.

18. It was obviously fixed
The Patriots have won three out of the four super bowls since 9/11 (the first one thanks to some new invention called the "tuck rule") That's quite a coincidence. I wonder how long the NFL has been rigged?

6. I don't blame you!
I think they had about 5 1/2 minutes! That was plenty of time to move the ball up the field and score quickly, do a kickoff, hold the Pat to 3 and out, and get the ball back to score a field goal.

I was actually yelling at the screen, "this is the superbowl, snap the damn ball." They could have called 3 plays in the huddle rather than one. Something.

I can't say I blame anyone who was a Eagle fan, or who lost money on them for being highly pissed off.

22. You think I'm pissed off
you ought to meet my sister-in-law. She grew up in Philly and rarely missed a game. She was 10 the last time they made the Super Bowl.

17. I didn't think any of them were very good last night
Aikman, who I've come to think is a good commentator, sounded rattled and not quite prepared. Collinsworth was a one-note pony, and joe buck was, well, joe buck. They sounded like they weren't quite ready for prime time.

Still better than the last time Fox had the super bowl, though, and we had to listen to madden and summerall (from beyond the grave?)

12. It was bizarre
McNabb looked tired, though...

Also, our local TV in the Philly region showed the guys goofing off a lot during the prep week -- that upset me.

Some "talking head" questioned early on whether the birds having finally won the NFC championship would "feel like they'd already won" -- or something to that effect.

I agree they could've done more in those final minutes...they seemed either spent, or unaware. Not sure which.

And cheers to the Patriots! I think they're amazing, and I have deep respect for our sister city in NE. Kraft had nothing but well wishes and extremely generous comments to throw our way. Above and beyond, really. Very cool.

21. It sure looked like they were playing to beat the point spread.
philly had superior athletes, but were outcoached.

new england was better prepared and made better on-field adjustments.
