Think about it, all those amazing artists out there who will never even go gold and Dr. Elmo with his annoying ass Xmas song went 10X platinum. I saw a little interview with him on a local station and they showed his freaking mansion, and property. It is unreal!

6. I kinda like it

I mean, there's not much more one can ask for out of a novelty Christmas kinda song, right? Well, that's my take at least. Certainly I see where you're coming from when you bring up great artists who've never gone gold vs. marginally talented (I'm assuming, at least) one-hit-wonders, like "Elmo 'n Patsy." But there are all kinds of artists that seem to illustrate the inevitably of that situation; it seems to be a fact of life in the music industry. And it's something I can see both sides in: I love my fair share of hacks but like "talented" artists, too. It's just dependent on what catches the ear, I think. If a talented but not commercially successful artist truly wants to sell a lot of records they can often manage to come up with something lightweight and catchy that can appeal to the masses, and often disgust a large portion of their fan base. Often it's the fact that they don't do this that keeps them many of their major fans and good reputations among critics. So sometimes it's up to the artist which path they want to take, though much is simply dependent on luck.

Anyway, did I mention I sometimes start rambling way too much? :-)
