TV Land...All In The Family--anyone watching this now?
It's the one where the Bunkers go out to vote and all the candidates come to the house (and of course, Archie trashes all of them). First we've got the woman liberal and he tears her up (with the same freeper reasoning that gets repeated ad nausem today...almost to the letter), then comes the gay rights people with the same platform as now ("two consenting adults should be able to do whatever in their own house") and he torches them as well.

HOLY SHIT! 35 years later and NOTHING'S CHANGED! Not one damn thing!

1. Archie Bunker would now be seen as the hero of the show.
To an extent, the bigots out there always did misinterpret the commentary of the show and used it to reinforce their own viewpoints, but if All in the Family premiered today, they'd identify with Bunker as some sort of conservative hero.

Of course, a show like All in the Family would never even make it on television today. Too "controversial" and all.

2. A ray of hope. My father was Bunkerish back in the 70's...
now he's behind the Dem platform 100%. Times may not have changed, but a lot of people have. :hi:

3. watching here too- amazed at how little has changed!!
really- politically- so much of what divides us is the same as what did 35 years ago.

and it really all comes down to ignorance- which is why the show is so damned brillant!
