Help...spammer using my account...any way to stop them?
Someone is forging my address to send out massive amounts of spam.

Anyone know if there's anything I can do to stop it? I'm getting bombarded with dozens of "not deliverable" messages as well as angry people who want to know why I'm spamming them.

I suspect some sick freeper may have harvested my addy from DU.

1. Webmail? An ISP account?
In either case I would contact the company and let them know.

They can help you get the password changed and maybe even help you track down the IP of the one who hacked you.

I am not sure how companies respond, as it has never happened to me. But contacting them would be my first action.

5. Your computer is not the infected one.
Worms and viruses usually pick a name in the infected machine's address book to use in the "from" field and then send messages to all the rest of the addresses. That makes it nearly impossible to trace back to the infected machine.
There really is not much you can do except ride it out and make sure your machine (and your friends' machines) are protected.

8. Unfortunately, I suspect this is the case
I'm a Mac user, except for reading e-mail via a webmail client on a work PC that is well-protected, and this is one of my domain addresses that is forwarded to the webmail client and is not used in a popmail program.

Crap.

7. I had something similar happen
but not to the massive spam point. When I called our internet provider, they told me someone had infiltrated my mailbox and I ended up with a new email addy and password. I quit them shortly after that because even though they're well known, I no longer trusted their security.
