I think I have the flu
102 temp, throat's on fire, achy all over to the point that it hurts to move, throbbing headache, and congested in my head and chest. Sound like the flu to you? I hate going to the doctor.

And I have soooo much to do. Getting sick isn't an option.

1. I got it,
with pneumonia complications, the day before I was to start a new job.

Thankfully I got a doctors excuse and they were totally cool with it.

But I had to put off starting for 8 days.

Really bad timing.

In fact I could not have gotten a job for a more interesting and understanding person.

I just love his style. He really probes you and tries to find out where your interests lay, and then applies that to your work.

It is the reason he is successful and expanding in an area when most everyone else is closing up shop.

And he is not a * supporter either. That always helps.

It is great to be in an organization filled with bright, happy people, who love their jobs and work HARD because of it.

We all give 200% to this guy. He inspires that.

Hope you get well soon. Like another poster mentioned go see the doc asap, 102 is not good.

2. I think my ill-like feeling has to do with the change in the weather ...
One day / week its cold and then the next day / week its warm spring like temperatures . Now my throat hurts a bit , my body aches , I feel cold all the time , and I have been sneezing . Just wait until allergy season comes , I am going to be a mess .

7. I have some antibiotics and decongestant
that he prescribed the last time I had it. Last year! If my fever doesnt' go down, I'm going in tomorrow.

Why o why can't doctors make housecalls anymore? Wish I lived on "Little House on the Prairie." :-)

Just kicked the flu or a strong cousin of it this past week. It was a doozie!

Dr. Zomby advises REST, and NYQUIL (only the green stuff).

5. I'm going to give you some advice that may get FLAMED !!!
I bartended my way through college - I learned a lot of interesting stuff.

Some of the regulars swore by this cure: Drink 2-4 shots of whiskey (or whatever), drink 4-6 glasses of water, and 1 lemon 's worth of juice... curl up in a sleeping bag, or other non-porous covering, and sleep for 10-16 hours.

I tried it twice - it worked amazingly well the first time, the second time (4 years ago) it worked for 2 days then it came back.

The theory is that you bod's temp hits the point that it kills the invading virus.

My 2 cents....

12. I'm so nauseated that I couldn't hold down whiskey if I wanted to.
I'm going to hit the couch now, though. Thanks for the advice. :-)

6. Better to suck it up and take a day or two to sleep
than to end up in the hospital for a longer period of time. I *know* that sometimes it seems that getting sick isn't an option... but perspective, my friend... getting incapacitated for a longer period of time *REALLY* isn't an option.

Take care of yourself and get well.

16. Couch, big blanket
maybe a good "get lost" novel (as in get lost in the words)... if you can - get a big kettle of water going for a "bottomless" cup of (caffene free) tea. Hydrate your body with water or tea (I find it hard to drink tons of water - but can do water and tea). It loosens the phlegm (makes it thinner) and helps flush out they system. I hate doing this - but when I do - am always glad that I have done so.

Again - feel better - and soon!

11. I don't even have the will to get up and fix a coke.
My kid is being my nurse. He's fixing drinks for me and bringing me Kleenexes. I hope he doesn't get it.

15. Darlin', hate to say it,
but yup, you've got the flu. Drink as many liquids as you can, sleep as much as you can. I took me about 5 days before I started to feel human again. That was 3 weeks ago. The cough has finally gone away.
Take care of yourself. Do you have anyone near-by to do the store runs for you? Hope you feel better soon.

19. Recovering from the flu right now
Worst flu I've had in about 14 years. Out of the 6 people in my household, 5 are now recovering from it, and 3 of those who caught it had received flu vaccinations.

The worst part of it came about 6 to 9 hours after my chest started feeling really tight and my fever just started going up. I had a 1 to 2 hour period where my fever hit 103.5 degrees, my fingers started turning an ash gray color, and I felt like puking because I was so dizzy and my stomach was just as overheated as the rest of my body. Body aches, chills, and all that good stuff, too. It was hellish. It's day 3 now, my sinuses are all stuffed up, my chest aches from the painful cough that's finally starting to fade away, and I still have a low-grade fever.

21. There are some anti-virals you can get with a prescription.
You hate to go to the doctor, everyone does.

But some of the anti-virals could cut the duration of influenza by half, and prevent you from the secondary infections. Do it quick, there is a narrow window for the drugs' effectiveness.

I'm sorry for you. It's crummy, beyond crummy, to get influenza. Get some help now. I wish you well.
