7. "Cold Turkey" is an awesome song. "Working Class Hero" is an awesome song.
"Imagine," not so much. ;)

Overrated, for sure, and that's one of the few Beatles/Beatles-related songs that I will say that about. Mainly 'cause all these people who don't identify with the lyrics at all *love* that song.

I had a couple of FReeper-type friends from high school who loved "Imagine" so much for reasons I'm not sure of; one of them actually said "Man, John Lennon had some fucked-up political views, but I love this song." It's like... how do you love a song that stands for everything you don't?

And I remember my religious right, ultraconservative in-laws bought their first baby "John Lennon's Imagine"-themed baby room decorations (baby bed sheets, curtains, etc.). Besides the fact that marketing something like that is wrong on so many levels (would Yoko have anything to do with that?), why would right-wing parents want their baby daughter sleeping on anti-God, communist, etc.-themed baby sheets? Some stuff just boggles the mind....

So I have nothing against "Imagine" as a song, really... I just don't understand why so many people who should hate the song like it so much. Is the melody that captivating? Do they have a very shallow appreciation of the pro-peace sentiment and ignore all the other messages of the song? It's hard to tell.

11. So--Elvis (formerly Declan Patrick McManus) is poor?
El has written some good tunes, but none as good as "Imagine".

18. Lennon never wrote a song as good as "Lipstick Vogue."
Although he came close with "Girl" and "She Said, She Said."

25. Please...."Imagine" is the most overrated song in the history of man
Okay, that may be an overstatement. But Elvis has B-sides that bury "Imagine."

14. Because you see that heaven is possible here on earth with some adjustment
but it ain't gonna happen cuz the hell mongers won't let us do it.

All the elements for heaven and hell are within our grasp. We have all of what we need. And we have free will. Too many use the latter to fuck up the former.

24. Because you are overly sensitive
I only get nostalgiac about songs that I associate with women. I mean, why else would Jimmy Buffett's version of "Southern Cross" make me misty?
