Attention LynneSin: Top Ten Philadelphia Eagles' Excuses
Edited on Tue Feb-08-05 12:01 PM by Richardo
From Letterman, for those who missed it (#3 is my fave)
----------------------------
10. "Spent two weeks practicing the coin toss."

9. "Discouraged by half time show's lack of nudity."

8. "We were missing 'Desperate Housewives'--who could think straight?"

7. "We're overwhelmed by the awe-inspiring metropolis that is Jacksonville."

6. "Oh, suddenly referees are too good to take bribes?!"

5. "Who really wants to get Gatorade dumped on them?"

4. "Should have campaigned harder in Ohio."

3. "It's totally unfair, the Patriots are really good."

2. "Maybe being from the land of cheese steaks ain't a good thing."

1. "When Tom Brady looked at us with those gorgeous eyes, we just melted."

2. Bummer.
I had no idea the flu makes your passes sail on you. ;)

He really didn't seem to be himself Sunday, but then again the Patriots have a way of making quarterbacks look that way.

It was still a good game, no matter who won. At least it wasn't decided by the end of the first quarter.

3. IT wasn't the passes.
Notice that they didn't execute a hurry up offense and that McNabb didn't run? He couldn't breathe to walk, much less run.
His O-line mates even mentioned he nearly puked in the huddle a few times, he was so out of breath.

6. It's the Super Bowl.....
seriously, would you replace your top surgeon with some recent med school grad when facing a difficult surgery?

And might I remind everyone the final score was 24-21 - hardly a blowout!

11. I agree score-wise
the poster is saying that they lost becuase the QB was sick. If he was that sick, he should have checked the ego and not played.

12. McNabb was not our problem on Sunday
Edited on Tue Feb-08-05 12:59 PM by LynneSin
If anything he did pretty good under the circumstances. I felt there was a crappy job of play calling, especially when the kept trying to run Westbrook up the center instead of doing what worked which was short screen passes. Also there was some crappy time management.

Was it McNabb's best game? No, but he still did a great job and I would rather have a sick McNabb in there then some fresh rookie playing.

13. We once had a sick QB
he was out and the team had to let another QB play - his name is Tom Brady.

14. Your sick QB wasn't that great of a player to begin with
McNabb is our franchise, seriously you must not be an Eagles fan because there would be mutiny against Andy Reid if anyone started other than McNabb.

Have you even considered that New England has one of the best defenses out there and maybe that was why McNabb wasn't passing for like 300+ yards? Nah, New England's defense suck so it must have been the Flu that caused McNabb to have an average game

16. Wait, McNabb passed 357 yards in that game, pretty good for a flu
and if you keep busting on McNabb not playing for a flu - your date is October 12th, 2017.

:P

20. Brady had a 103 fever the night before winning the Pittsburg game
Just before the Super Bowl, his grandmother died and his dad wound up in the hospital for what sounds like a heart attack.

So there's that.

23. thank you - when the big games come down the pike...
..the real pros step and play the game no matter what.

Which is pretty much why we wanted Randell Cunningham out of Philly. His last playoff game he played in Philly he was going to skip out of because he wife might go into labor.

5. A guy I was at a party with was trying to tell me that Jacksonville was
the biggest city in the country.

If I'd known him any better, I'd have laughed in his stupid monkey face :D

10. No, the largest city area-wise is Juneau, Alaska. Jacksonville is
second largest. But, you know, Alaska just has to out do everyone... even Texas. Jacksonville is, however, the largest city area-wise in the contiguous United States.

19. #1 should be...
"We didn't lose the game; we just ran out of time." -- Vince Lombardi

The Eagles' time management in the last 5 minutes was pitiful. It was like they had never expected to be close at the end, so had never drilled for it. They literally wasted 2:30 off the clock just huddling, and failed to force the Pats' defense into a hurry-up situation by going no-huddle. Further compounding it was the fact McNabb did not throw to the sidelines, so receptions cost more time than necessary.

It was a pure strategy and management blunder, why they allowed themselves to lose control of the time at the end and they lost when they could have given themselves a lot more opportunity to win. I am still shaking my head over it...it makes absolutely no sense, and was counter to how they had managed their game all night previous to it.

And I had no dog in the fight; I was just observing it.
