Best cover of a song the Beatles covered
How's that for complicated?!

But my vote in this case would go to "Baby It's You" by Smith. The song was first recorded by the Shirelles, covered by the Beatles, and given a harder treatment in the late-sixties by a group called Smith. This was actually the highest-charting version of the song. (The Beatles' version was never released as a single, though; unless you count a live version issued on an EP in the early nineties to accompany the release of their Live at the BBC album.)

I like all three versions of this song; it's hard to pick a favorite.

1. I very much like the Smith cover too.
The Beatles should not have covered songs that were written for girls to sing. This is a mistake that Oasis avoided.

4. I will agree with you in at least one case
Keeping the lyrics gender-appropriate gets pretty complicated in their cover of "Boys" from Please Please Me. Not one of their better ones, largely because it's so hard to figure out what's going on in it.

3. "A Taste...
of Honey" - Herb Alpert--cheesey yet tap-dancing fun. And "Honey Don't" - Carl Perkins

7. I like that one, too
Very catchy version. What's funny is I actually first heard this song playing the album on 45 RPM by accident, so I thought that was how fast it actually went! There was nothing to clue me in really, since it's an instrumental, so I went for a while not knowing I was listening to the song at too fast of a speed. It sounds good either way, though. haha

5. "Blackbird"--Brad Meldau Trio
To me, the Beatles music is sacred. No one should cover their songs. But in this case, I'll make an exception.

6. "Here, There and Everywhere"
by Emmylou Harris. It was that song that made me fall in love with her voice.
