Post Nasal Drip
Edited on Tue Feb-08-05 05:44 PM by Jack_Dawson
It owns me. It kicks my ass. There is something constantly running down the back of my throat. When I exercise it gets 10x worse. It wakes me up at night. How the fuck do I get rid of it? Nasal sprays don't work. Any other ideas? Thx in advance if anyone knows anything.

1. Try Singulair it works for me and now I can actually smell things
Unfortunately, that means that I am the one who ends up locating and cleaning up any accidents from the dog or cats!

8. it's a pill that short circuits the immune response
Asthma and allergy symptoms are the result of a multistep process. Somewhere along the line, mast cells break down and generate or release histamines and other signals which cause asthma or allergy symptoms. My son's been on singulair for years and it's just about eliminated his asthma. Because the target is so refined, side effects are minimal - no sleepiness, no rapid heart beat. I've noticed that it eliminates the stuffy nose when I get a cold although I still get the fever and sore throat.

Then we realized that it predisposes you to diabetes and can increase BP.

He has had horrible allergies for years. Used to get shots.

He now gets COMPLETE relief from Bee Pollen made by Health From The SUn/Arkopharma in New Hampshire. (800-447-2249).
We buy it at Whole Foods. It costs $12 for a 90 day supply. He takes only 1 capsule daily.

He has been astounded with how effectively this has worked for him.

Best of luck to you.

4. Try some herbal remedies if it's persistant.
At least you won't get hooked on something that has lots of side effects. And try a neti pot.

5. 2wks antibiotics + OTC oral antihistimines + intranasal steroids
Oral antihistimines give the nose a chance to dry out and let the antibiotics do their thing (short course only - the less ABs you take in your life, the better). The intranasal steroids work really well, they're inexpensive, and they don't have "steroid" side effects of any kind (Nasacort, Nasonex, Beconase, etc.).

From what I've heard from doctors (I interview them for a living) Singulair is amazing - for about 1 in 10 people. It either works or it doesn't - but when it does, it works great. Might be worth seeing if your doc can give you samples (many docs won't Rx Singulair w/o sampling first to be sure the pt is one of the 1/10)

DON'T take over-the-counter intranasal antihistimine - they make things worse in the long run

The nice thing is you can treat this even if you don't have health insurance or Rx coverage - the drugs are all pretty cheap, and my doctor is to the point where she'll just Rx them w/o a visit.
