Strange situation

There's a big trial tomorrow, I'll be attending, it involves a guy that ran a puppy mill in the town I was the newspaper editor in. So I'm familiar with it.
I had forgotten about it until today when I went to check out the court schedule for tomorrow. Here's the tricky part.
The case venue was moved out of the little town into the city I live in now. So, no one from the little town will be there, or knows about it as it's been a long time and they don't pay attention.
The station I work for is aphiliated with the paper that was my competition in the little town, so I phoned that paper and told them.
I was two seconds away from calling my old paper, but stopped thinking "Wether or not I used to work for them doesn't matter, I can't call and give them this."
It felt wierd.
I almost did again, then I remembered the guy we work with doesn't phone our competition and give them news.... so I can't back stab him.
BUT MAN WOULD I LOVE TO.

Only thing, I told him I'd write the story for him but it CAN NOT appear with my name in the byline.

Not sure why, but that's something you can research on ur own if interested.
