I took my measurements and found that I really must look like a freak
I am female and 5'5''. My measurements are 36-28-34 (chest-waist-hips). My waist/hip ratio suggests that I am at greater risk of getting heart disease and the website suggests that I lose weight. My limbs look like tooth picks and my pelvic bones and ribs are very visible though and my BMI suggests that I am underweight. I don't think that it is just my low self esteem talking. I have weird measurements that most people don't have. I am hoping that when I eat enough again that I'll gain weight and look more normal again.

1. BMI=BS
5'5" and 36-28-34? That website? Stay away from it.

What's your diet like ("eat enough again...")?

6. I have digestive problems
I have to wait another month to see another doctor. When I told my last doctor that I was concerned that I was losing weight due to not being able to eat enough food, he said that as long as I was menstrating that I had nothing to worry about. He said that I should eat as much food, preferably high calorie as possible.
On a good day I eat a banana and granola bar for breakfast, some kind of deli meat sandwich from the machine at work, and chicken or beef with rice or noodles usually mixed with some vegtables and equivalent to one serving. I drink a few sodas per day which probably isn't helping my digestion problems.

11. jesus..change your diet!
Edited on Tue Feb-08-05 07:13 PM by madrchsod
do not eat from the vending machines if you have problems! that crap can cause you problems.chicken or beef combo shouldn`t hurt your system.cut out the soda`s for a week. eat smaller portions of food more times a day, that`s what i used to do but i can`t now cause i work. alot depends on how much you weigh now and how much weight you will have to gain to look filled out...you don`t want the exta pounds going where they shouldn`t. also you have to remember that those extra pounds are harder to remove when you get older---ask my wife, she`ll agree on that....

14. Whoa. Okay...hold on...
First off, find a nutritionist. Nothing against doctors, but they specialize in stuff that too many no NOTHING about, yet get 3 credit hours in nutrition.

I'm certified in sports nutrition, which isn't even close to what some folks go through to be certified nutritionists, but I can help you more than that MD. PM me for help, if you want it.

2. You're not a freak!
And most women would KILL to have those measurements. I'm built similarly--somewhat busy with narrower hips. It's actually a great body shape for being a model (if we were but a few inches taller...).

I've always thought the BMI scale was complete bullshit, because it's far, far too generalized.

9. I have a hard time finding proper fitting clothing though
I recently went clothes shopping and after trying on several pairs finally found a pair of Levi's, size 4 relaxed fit, that fit. The other brands seemed to be too tight at the waist if they weren't huge in the hips. I didn't even try any of the junior's jeans because they all were styles that I wouldn't wear. Would junior's sizes be better for women with narrower hips in comparison to their waist? Dresses are even more of a challenge.

10. I have the same problem.
And heaven help me if I'm buying a top/bottom set that includes a button-up top. I almost always take one size larger in the top than I do in pants or skirts. Clothes are just not designed for women with boobs. :-(

I have had better luck with juniors clothes, because they seem to be designed for women with narrower hips. Over the years, I've found a few comforting mainstays: Gap jeans always fit me GREAT (their classic cut), and I can always find pants that fit correctly at Limited Express (but, oddly enough, not at The Limited).

I have a nice-looking bod (and it sounds like you do, too), but stuff just fits me funky. Or would that be "funkily?"

3. why worry about what some website told you?
if you're really concerned that you might be unhealthy in some way, see a doctor and they'll tell you if there's anything wrong.

otherwise, just be yourself! don't worry about "overweight" or "underweight"...unless those are going to lead to medical difficulties. society's image is destructive, and a "real" woman shouldn't be a twig. enjoy life! eat what you want (within reason and in moderation) and if you get out and walk, or exercise, you'll be fine. a long walk every day is a good way to exercise and not try to kill yourself by running too far or doing crazy workouts. plus, you get to see the world!

12. Goodness...
.... there is nothing wrong with your measurements. And BMI is a joke, pay no attention at all to it.

I think you are worrying for no reason. Everyone's body is different, if you are ok with yours (and you should try to be) then forget this #$%# web site. :)
