Apparently, you now can be fined for allowing your clothing to show other clothing?

Va. Bill Sets Fine for Low-Riding Pants
February 08, 2005 7:09 PM EST

RICHMOND, Va. - Virginians who wear their pants so low their underwear shows may want to think about investing in a stronger belt. Lawmakers passed a bill Tuesday authorizing a $50 fine for anyone who displays his or her underpants in a "lewd or indecent manner."

4. I hate the look of these things, but this is just stupid.
Next they'll be fining fat girls for wearing bikinis, or hip huggers. I sure have seen lots of people wearing things that just make them look bad, but to make it illegal is just a dumb idea!

6. Well......
I think it is disgusting to wear you pants and show your underwear personally. But i do agree it is going waaaaaaaaaay to far to even presume to tell folks how to wear their clothes.

7. What if you're wearing two pairs of underwear?
If you are wearing two pairs, can your 'outer' underwear truly be considered 'underwear?

It would be more like 'middlewear' wouldn't it?

10. And in other news... Virginia is facing a severe shortage of
plumbers!

Seriously, this is ridiculous. Creative people will continue to wear the same pants, but will just "go commando".

22. That law is in the works.
If they get this law passed, why wouldn't bra straps be next? It is underwear peeking out of the outerwear.

This is the same state that wanted women who suffered spontaneous abortions to report to the police department within 12 hours.

They have nothing constructive to do down there. The people could probably save tax money by doing away with the idle legislature. (No wonder they say an idle mind is the devil's workshop.)

20. About time!
I have been very concerned about this trend. If they do the right thing the fine will be doubled if your belt is above your belly button and double again if you have a pocket protector on your person.

23. Flood the legislature with fashion law proposals. Free expression?
Edited on Tue Feb-08-05 09:17 PM by BrightKnight
Is it constitutional to legislate free expression?

If we are going to start legislating fashion I have a few fashion laws I would like to have passed.

26. I just moved from VA to Florida
and was on first name basis with my state delegate. I'm gong to have to send him an email and ask what the hell is up with this.
Be intersting to see what the Senate does with it and if Mark Warner signs it - and who interprets lewd or indecent which is what the law calls for - how stupid.....
