What's worse is when four people make the same tired joke and they didn't even bother to read the thread to see that joke has already been made. Repeatedly.

Yeah, it was serious. But now in re-reading I see I was just BEGGING for some smartass answers. But seeing as this is the lounge it's ok. It's when you ask a serious question in a more serious forum and get nothing but flippant smart ass answers that it even remotely bothers me.

Just the other day someone asked a question because he/she didn't know a word. The next poster made fun of that poster. That pisses me off because we don't all have the same knowledge. I'm here to learn AND have fun, but not to be put down when I ask a serious question. So far I haven't been, but I see it happen to others.

Nothing made me angrier when I was teaching than to have one student make fun of another because he/she didn't know something. Baaaaaaaaaaaad, and they got told about it, too. I pulled out the old golden rule for them when that happened.

Maybe, someone should suggest a comic relief forum for people to just joke about the news to keep from crying. That way those of you who want to be serious can be serious and those of us who want to joke around can when we feel like it. Does anyone know a moderator or the webmaster or whoever is in charge here? Or how to suggest the idea to the DU head honchos who make decisions?

17. It's not THAT big of a deal, really.

I was just letting off some steam. Of course humor is welcome all over DU. I think what's weird is when the question is so obviously serious and almost EVERY single answer is smart ass and flippant. That's when it gets a bit frustrating.

Nothing worth bothering the mods or admins over, in my opinion. I'm really not that easily ruffled. And I do love the really funny stuff people post in other parts of DU, too. But an answer that takes the question seriously just now and then is nice.
