Woo hoo! My first use of my new wireless keyboard and optical mouse!
Thanks to everyone who helped me about a week ago with finding a good wireless keyboard and mouse!

This post is, truly, the very first time I am using the wireless keyboard, and it is working perfectly!

And the mouse is wonderful.

Everything installed with no problems whatsoever, lickity-split.

FInally, Microsoft is learning that people don't want to do an "easy" install that requires 45 minutes, full perusal of the "manual", and 22 internet searches and three threads on DU to finally *@#(&$%&^ install something.

YAY!!

Many thanks everyone!! I went with the Microsoft Wireless Optical Desktop, which on Amazon was dirt cheap, but I can't remember the price.
$50? Something like that.

1. I've had a couple problems with the keyboard at times, since
I type really fast. It doesn't always catch the control/alt/shift keys.

2. Wireless mice are a great invention
I've had mine for about a year. NiMH rechargable batteries in constant rotation are a must.

3. I love it!
And yeah, thank God for rechargable batteries.

Though a number of reviewers on Amazon mentioned getting siz months on a set of batteries in the mouse. Not bad!

I wish that this mouse - like one I saw elsewhere, a Logitech, perhaps - had an off switch.

That makes such perfect sense.

4. I'm not positive, but I think mine lasts about 2 weeks
on two 1800mAh AA's. I always have a fresh set in the charger, so I don't worry about the short battery life.

5. Glad you are enjoying it, Rabrrrrr. I believe the mouse isn't using power
when sitting there unused as the optical light isn't activated until you move it. So, I wouldn't worry too much about an on-off switch. Colleagues of mine using this model have told me they are getting about 6 months using 8-10 hours a day at work> I've only had mine a short time so I can only report their experience.

I still sort of like my home set up a bit better (gyration wireless compact: www.gyration.com)-- But that mouse can be activated while being held in your hand and pointed, which is sort of cool if you are sitting back in a comfy chair some distance from the monitor. I also like it a lot because I have small hands and find its compact size and springy keys to be really comfortable--but it does eat through batteries so much I had to purchase an additional rechargeable battery to keep charged constantly. Still a great unit, though, but costly--about $120 as I recall, plus some extra for a cover and extra mouse recharger/battery. I figured work would balk at that, given I needed two sets for two workstations, so the Microsoft unit was a good compromise.
