which of these lcd displays are the better one??

1) 15.0-inch TFT UXGA display panel - 16.8M color support with resolutions up to 1600 x 1200 pixels, 150:1 contrast ratio (Carbon)

2) 15.0-inch TFT SXGA+ display panel (Carbon Black) - 16.8M color support with resolutions up to 1400 x 1050 pixels, 150:1 contrast ratio

i know they appear to be the same, but i'm really wanting to understand the difference between UXGA and SXGA+. Thanks.

1. UXGA has a higher native resolution

Notice the max resolution between the two.

The UXGA will show higher resolution (more on the screen, but what you see will be smaller).

Does either list anything about a redraw or refresh rate? I would recommend making sure that that draw rate is under 25ms (preferably 16ms or so). Anything higher will result in ghosting in any video or gaming applications you might do (if any), because the screen will be trying to catch up with what the computer is sending it.

2. UXGA and SXGA+ refer to the maximum displayable resolutions..

Lists what each stand for. Basically it just means that the UXGA is capable of displaying a (1600x1200) image while the SXGA+ is capable of displaying a (1400x1050) image. However as ET Awful points out there are other considerations beyond resolution and contrast ratio. You want the refresh rate of the LCD panel to be as low as possible, (corresponding to a fast refresh rate). Also if possible it would be best if you could actually see both monitors running side by side with your own eyes. Here's a good article on LCDs that you might want to take a look at:
