...found out I had a fairly complicated deviated septum type thing going on. A more normal symmetry of the nose after surgery.

3. I don't have a problem with it, but I always wonder

what people who have them tell their kids (if they decide to have kids later) when the kids have different noses than their mom or dad. This may sound weird, but my nose is one of the ways in which I resemble my mom. I think it would be weird to not have that connection.

5. Bad idea

It ruined the career of that girl who was in Dirty Dancing. She wound up doing a cheap imitation of herself in the TV show It's Like, You Know. Too bad, she was the funniest thing in Ferris Bueller, a very funny movie.

7. It's when you think that it will completely change your life...

that it's a problem. Plastic surgery is changing your looks. It's not going to drastically change your life or bring happiness into your life. If you have self esteem issues before, I really don't think getting a nose job is going to magically sweep all of that away.

8. I had mine done for a medical reason (deviated septum) and I

didn't expect it to change my life. But the truth is, I like my face better now than before the surgery, and it did make me feel a little better about myself, more confident. I probably wouldn't have had it done for only cosmetic reasons but in my case it worked out better all around. I had allergies/asthma and lots of trouble breathing during a few months of the year- now the allergies are hardly a problem at all and I never have trouble breathing.

Yes, that's perfectly understandable. And I'm glad that everything worked out for you.

I have a largish nose myself. When I was in high school, I almost desperately wanted to get a rhinoplasty. But, I didn't have the money (our family sure didn't) and my health was not in any way affected. It would have been purely for cosmetic reasons. I'm glad I never went through with it, actually. I can't explain exactly why, but I am.

12. About big noses on teenagers.

I have thought about this a good bit as I have moved into my 40s. There is no extra fat on a teenaged or young adult face and the features are so pronounced. I did not take into account that as you get older your face fills out and the things that looked huge before kinda seem to blend in better. So I guess if I had waited I would have grown into my nose.

9. I had one for both medical and cosmetic reasons about 18

years ago. Fixed the deviated septum (it went back to its original position later) and had my nose shortened and some of the bridge trimmed down. Kinda had that witchypoo nose thing going. Over the years the bridge has kinda sunk down and the tip became too pointy. If I had it to do over again I might not do the cosmetic part or maybe just shorten it.

I couldn't breathe through my nose at all after the last one. It's still just a touch crooked, but I can breathe through it now.

It royally sucked having it done though, and running around with those tubes up my nostrils was a bitch.
