1. I am glad that you're posting again. I can't believe the musical knowledge

you have. Sometimes when I read your post it reminds me of songs that I haven't heard of thought of in years. And memories (both good and bad) come with them.

3. Check me if I'm wrong here, but...

Elvis never wrote a song in his life, at least nothing that got recorded, right? Col. Parker slapped E's name on a bunch of songs over the years to force the songwriters to hand back half the songwriting royalties ("Son, you want 50% of a million seller, or one-hunnert-poicent of a song nobody's evah gonna hear?") but I don't think he ever actually wrote anything.

Not to take away from his abilities as a performer and interpreter, but like Sinatra and basically every big singer prior to Little Richard and Buddy Holly, Elvis was not a songwriter.

Now, Bobby Dylan... THERE'S a songwriter! And even he got his start covering Woody Guthrie and traditional folk tunes.

4. You're absolutely correct

Elvis did not write songs, unless you count interpretation as a form of writing.

Similarly, Enrico Caruso and Maria Callas never wrote a song. Neither have Luciano Pavarotti or Beverly Sills. So how come nobody holds it against *them*? Because their music is "serious," while Presley sang "mere" rock 'n' roll?

Where I come from, that's called "elitist wanking."
