22. I ran afoul of this fellow about 30 years ago . . .
When he tried to debunk some parapsychological work I was observing. He was waaaay pissed he couldn't find the "trick" he was convinced was being played, but that didn't stop him from publishing a spurious report.

A bit of a fart, in my opinion. Is he even still alive?

30. How Interesting!
Obviously, you know that there's a standing million-dollar reward for anyone (or any group) who can demonstrate paranormal abilities. Was your organization being tested for the million dollar reward? Or was this "pre-testing"?

I'd be interested in reading his "spurious" report. What was the name of the organization... how long ago was this? If you can provide some basic details (that don't invade on your personal privacy) I would like to write to Mr. Randi to see if he can tell me more.

Did you get to meet him personally? Did you go to Florida to be tested, or did he come to your location? What kind of tests were devised? What kind of parapsychologic abilities were being tested? Mind reading? Telekinetic? Spoon bending? Predicting? Projection? Long distance viewing?

33. You want more details than I've got after 30 years . . .
But I'll try -- and hope my memory doesn't make me look foolish.

When I was about 18 and living in Denver, I was introduced to Jule Eisenbud, who was working with a fellow called Ted Serios who was, I guess, a telekinetic. While I wasn't anything like a real researcher, I did observe Serios produce images on film in ways that -- short of massive back-of-the-house fraud of which there was no evidence that I could detect -- appeared to be paranormal.

The Randi investigation took place when I wasn't present, and at a point when Serios' talent had almost faded away. Eisenbud reported that paranormal results had been obtained, but not nearly so dramatic as earlier in Serios' career.

Randi, however, maintained (and forgive me, it has been many years since I read this) that he knew how the effect "could" have been produced, and therefore he had successfully debunked it. Eisenbud said, "bunk."

I'm a pure rationalist. This Serios incident is the only time in my life I observed anything I considered remotely paranormal, and it doesn't fit very well with my world view.

But there you have it.

36. The Amazing Randi
For a great insight into James Randi read "Billion Dollar Babies" by Bob Greene. The book is about Alice Cooper, but Randi toured with them, and is featured quite a bit.
