Valentine's Day Whiner Rant

Have you ever noticed how the same kind of person who complains about how Valentine's Day is the most corporate, bullshit holiday ever (I happen to be ambivalent towards it) will be the one to say "I'm alone on Valentine's Day, and I'm so depressed, no one loves me" etc... Do these people not realize that being depressed on Valentine's Day validates the very notion of the holiday they claim to think is not valid? Sorry, all of the self-pity and whining around VD really gets tiresome after awhile. I've never spent a VD with someone, but I've never whined about it either. I'm not saying that makes me a better person, just that I can't wait for Feb. 14th to be over for another year so that all the whining will cease and things can go back to normal at work/on DU/in the world at large. <end rant>

thanks for the concern :D i'm one of those who tends to, by my own devices or otherwise, be free around valentine's day (up until about 3 years ago I would have rather had someone around, the last 3 i've intentionally not been dating anyone seriously). i just get so sick of all of the shit that comes with VD, both the over-the-top disgusting displays of false emotion that aren't there for the rest of the year, and then the bitter, jaded bastards who can't stop whining about how much the holiday sucks, when it is the very thing they are whining about. guess who's going through a little caffeine withdrawal this morning? :D

All copycatting of responses aside, V-Day is a good/bad thing. If you have someone you can give/send flowers or chocolates and cards to then more power to you, it's also a chance for those that don't have an SO to send a note ( call it a psuedo-note ) to someone they are interested in and see what happens. Personally, while I've been shot down enough times, none of the girls that shot me down were mean about it. They were all flattered that I'd go through the trouble, so IMO all those V-Day haters haven't really tried to cash in on the opportunity to send a "seemingly" innocent card to someone they have a crush on.

Valentine's Day hasn't ment anything at all till recently. For years, Feb. 14th has been a normal day. Now the stores are full with VD gifts and such. It swept over from you. But so far it still isn't such a big deal as it is with you.

People who let too much dust collect under their feet end up with far worse problems I think. They're so busy wallowing, they miss out on the good things that come along.
