Poll question: Should women be allowed to run for President?

I say no. I don't have anything against women, and there are plenty that'd make fine Presidents, but think of President Ann Coulter. That's simply too much of a risk to take. So I'd prefer that women not be allowed to run for President until Ann Coulter's dead.

PM Mulroney announced his retirement, and Kim Campbell won the leadership of the party. She functioned as PM until the election was called and went down to a major defeat, retaining only 2 seats in the House, and losing her own riding.

She didn't cause that; Mulroney did. Like I said before, you must not be very old, because I remember being there and voting in that election, and believe you me, Mulroney was very much on people's minds when they consigned the Federal Tories to the dumpster of history, face-first. She was just the unfortunate patsy who wound up taking the fall for it. Not that, I think, if she'd been re-elected as the PM she would have done much good, but her getting thrown out had nothing to do with her being female and had everything to do with Meech Lake, NAFTA, and the general pro-American, Reaganesque policies that make Mulroney a curse-word even today. ISTR that people were very *pleased* with her becoming the first female PM ever, as a contextless fact, but Mulroney's evil deeds did for her, kind of the same way Teflon Mike Harris' (ptui!) bungling and corruption did for Blackout Ernie Eves.

Canada's already HAD a female PM, thus proving that Canada is WAY ahead of the US in gender equality: An incompetent woman finally rose to the top spot in the nation, when incompetent men had been holding the spot periodically for years.
