A lot of you know about this company that I like a lot - where I just went back to temp again.

The way the company is run is fucked up. I know all companies' first priority is money. But sometimes I think these guys go overboard worrying about money over quality and SENSE.

They hire office temps ALL THE TIME - then let them all go at the same time. THey get these people trained for certain positions and then just let them go. Ok, i understand that's how temp jobs work.

But with this company, it seems they have a habit of LETTING things get backed up - only to hire someone to fix the problem for a month, then let them go.

then the problem is back. it's in various departments. they always need help.

now, if they have someone that LOVES working with them, wouldn't it make more sense to take all those little jobs and put them together as one position, and hire me to do it all, instead of hiring/firing, having to retrain temps all the time?

Man, on one hand this company is awesome. but on the other hand some of their decisions make NO SENSE.

Do you think it's a good idea? I already know how to do half the shit I would need to do!!! WTF??? And i know MORE than just the office shit. i know how to inspect the products!!!

1. Then they'd have to pay for regular benefits
I'm sure they've done the calculation. It may seem like a waste to you, but it's probably cheaper for them to hire temps all the time.

it's weird. i just like what they do. i have no idea why lol. they remanufacture printer cartridges (inkjet, laser, etc) and for some reason since i started there last time i just liked what they did. i also liked learning to how to take them apart, put them back together, check for defects, etc.....

and they are great people, for the most part (except for some of the crabby bosses). they are hilarious. they all have a good sense of humor, they all get along very well - and there's a lot of drama. and i love drama :D seriously, there is a lot of drama there. nothing "bad", just crazyiness sometimes. i love it.

oh, i also love the fact that whatever i do there is either some kind of computer work or technical work (working with the products) NO ANSWERING PHONES, NO CUSTOMERS!! :bounce:

5. Faye, you're singing my perma-temp song.
I had one company that shuffled me around from department to department so they wouldn't have to hire me and pay me benefits. That "temp job" lasted a year and a half.

I temped at a major Massachusetts college in one department for TWO YEARS. I loved the job, but it sure made me feel like sh*t when the "real" employees complained abut their pay (way above mine) and benefits (which were non-existent for me). There had been another long-term temp before me--she lasted a year. After I quit, they went through 4 temps in 2 months before they admitted they needed a full-time employee and made it a permanent job. Naturally no one thought to call me for it and I only found out by running into one of my co-workers in a market years later.

At another New England college I temped as the Exec. Sec. to the head law librarian--probably my dream job. I worked there 8 moths while they searched for a permanent secretary. My temp contract prohibited me from applying for the job. Then I stayed another 2 months to train the bimbo they hired to replace me. She lasted 4 months before getting pregnant and quitting.

What I always hear from people I run into from these jobs is how great a sectretary I was, blah, blah, blah. When I say, "Why didn't you hire me?" They always get a blank look for a second and then say, "But you were a temp! We didn't think you wanted a permanent job!"

:grr: :puke:

So I hear ya, Sistah... I hear ya!
