Poll question: Do You Prefer Male or Female Teachers?
I've always preferred having lady teachers, and now in college, it's female professors all the way if I can help it!

I don't know why but it's like I can relax more or learn better from female instructors, always have, always will.

1. Female
I tend to favor female teachers 'cause prior to college most of the male teachers I had were coaches who (with one exception) weren't particularly good and played favorites with the jocks and popular kids. And I was neither... However, college was a bit different. I had some great male professors who changed my perception of male teachers dramatically. So I don't have much of a bias, but do tend to have a slight one for female teachers. But my very favorite teachers and very least favorite teachers are about equally split between both genders.

2. Male
Most men are nicer to me and more willing to listen to me than other women. Their conscious or subconscious motivations could be debatable (never been harassed or anything though), but it's still my experience nonetheless.

4. Generally, I do better with women but I had a Western Civ instructor...
...Mark Santiago, who was so into his subject and such an excellent speaker that he ranks among my top three favorite college teachers.

5. It's really hit or miss regardless of gender
If someone can push me creatively, then I'll treat them with a much higher level of respect.

If someone's just riding out a career and not learning the new technologies and trends *cough my design teacher cough* then they can KMA. Male or Female.

6. A lot of it really is the individual
My high school teachers were a mixture of personalities and cultural types. Some of our younger teachers taught there because it was where they could find a job and didn't really do the best job of teaching. Some of the older teachers were parental types. Although teachers did mostly respect the separation of church and state, there was a difference between the secular types and the religious types. Some teachers grew up rural while some grew up urban. There was actually more difference in these types than gender. They were all a bit quirky too.
In college, department seemed to matter more than gender as far as teaching style. Some departments pretty much agreed to teach the same way. The female professors weren't really any nicer, but were more likely to mentor female students.
Overall, I judged most of my instructors as individuals rather than a gender.

7. I've had great teachers of both genders...
...and mediocre teachers of both genders. I don't remember EVER preferring one over the other.
