A friend's last e-mails and voicemail from WTC 9/11 - Need guidance
I posted this on GD as well.

A friend of mine was at the WTC on 9/11. I have a couple of e-mails he sent me that morning and a recording a voicemail he left me. I haven't done anything with these things because... well, just because. I guess I couldn't face dealing with his death and the way he died. Anyway, last night my partner suggested that it would probably be good to archive these documents in some way so that they aren't lost to history. Does anyone know of any reputable projects that are collecting such things? Any suggestions would be gratefully appreciated. Thanks.

2. I'm afraid I don't have the space or skills
Also, I'm not sure I have the emotional energy. But thanks for the suggestion.

3. I don't know of anything, but perhaps those in charge of building
the memorial at the former site will be collecting things from that day. I wouldn't have any idea how to contact them, but maybe start there? Or call the City of NY and ask around?

Sorry about your friend. How very tragic, isn't it?

6. So many folks lost so much that day
Someone suggested the This is New York project, so I think I'll start there.

So many people lost so much that day that I feel a sort of guilt for feeling as bad as I do.

4. That's quite a responsibility.
I can see your quandary; if the message was from a friend, it might also be personal, but because it's so historical, the public should be aware of it, too. Then, you have to determine who you would trust enough with something that precious. I'm no genius, but I would wait to see if the political environment improves in this country before I would put it out there. Just my opinion.

5. Yeah
There's not really anything personal to me in the messages, other than the messages themselves of course. The first e-mail is him talking about coming to work early and basically planning for a trip to NYC my partner and I had talked about making that xmas. The second e-mail was to a group of us and talks about the chaos they were experiencing- he was in the second tower that was hit, and at the time they thought it was a repeat of the 93 bombing. I can't write about the voicemail.

I don't know how I feel about the public being made aware of it, but I do think that his words should be saved somewhere. There's nothing earth shatteringly signifcant to an outside observer, but this stuff shouldn't just fade away.
