Khephra's final resting place (big pics)

A few of you may know that I was honored with the construction of a pyramid for Khephra's ashes. It's substantially finished now, and I'm just waiting for the final coat of polyurethane to cure. I used birdseye maple for the construction, and gold leaf for the Eye of Horus carved into the top. We had talked about a gold colored stain but I stained a few sample pieces and it looked bad (came out black, not gold) so I just let the beauty of the wood speak for itself. Thought I'd let everyone have a look at it before I ship it out to Kef's mother next week.

His name was Scott Lowery and his DU name was Khephra after an Egyptian god. He was among the first DUers and he was a really sweet guy. He just about kept the LBN forum going on his own, with his posts on breaking news from around the world.

He died at his keyboard in January from a blood clot in his leg causing an embolism. He was 37.

As the wife of a carpenter and I have a BIL on the west coast who is also a Master Shipwright, I've seen many beautiful pieces of original wood work in my time and that piece certainly ranks up there as one fine piece of craftsmanship and art. The joints are perfect. Beautiful choice of wood. It's truly gorgeous.
