Apple Stock Does a 2 for 1 Split

Hmmmm, I wish I had some money to invest. Let me rephrase that . . . I wish I had money in Apple stock. I think this 2 for 1 will make some people a mighty nice profit over the next few months.

1. I Wondered What Happened to the Market This Morning
Nothing like a vote of confidence from a tech company to get everyone all excited.

2. Well, at least it's a blue company :)
I'd say it'll continue until someone makes something that takes attention away from the iPod.

What's funny is it's not really a vote of confidence in the economy, but in the trendiness of their hot-selling mp3 player.

3. That's Right, but It Has the Same Effect as a Positive Earnings Surprise
even if it only comes from one product.

5. At 11:21 CST, Apple $81.05, up 2.69; Dow 10,806.14, up 56.53

I wish I'd bought it at around $20 a year or so ago. Heh. Oh well, I missed others even more profitable than that. Worst miss to-date was a $1.05 "old industry" penny stock a year ago that is at $16.95 right now. Sigh. Can't catch 'em all.

7. The worst one I saw was a buddy of mine had some cheap stock
Edited on Fri Feb-11-05 12:35 PM by ET Awful
in a company called Vertical Computer Systems, Inc. He bought about $5,000 worth when it was at like $3.00 a share. It did a 2 for 1 split, then climbed to $7.50 a share afterwards. I told him to sell, he said "No, I want to hold on to it 'til it hits $14."

The company nosedived to .02 a week later.

If he'd sold when I told him to, he would've made $20,000 profit. But NO, he got greedy thinking it would continue to go up :).

I'm going by memory on this, I may be slightly off on the numbers, but I know he threw away almost exactly $20k in profits. This was in '99 or possibly 2000 if I remember correctly.

4. I'm confused what does it mean?
I love apple and my hubby and I are considering buying some apple stock.

What does this mean for people who already own apple stock and what does it mean for people who want to buy stock? Can we only buy stock in the ipod if we want to? or vice versa.

6. Okay . . .
For people that own stock already, this means that they now will own 2 shares for each share they owned previously.

For people looking to buy stock, this means that each share will be priced lower, but in these cases, the value usually climbs rapidly after the split.

People that already owned stock in Apple are in a very good position to make a potentially very large profit.

Those who buy after may make a large profit, but depending on when they get in, the potential profit isn't as great.

9. Woohoo! I bought in December.
I was one of those PC users who bought an ipod mini and became enraptured with all things Mac.

I knwe if it was happening to me it was happening to others so we bought stock shortly before it went up.

Now I wish I'd bought more.

12. This happened at Penney's in the early nineties when I was working
there and had a 401K. Shortly thereafter, the stock took a nosedive. One never knows. :hi:
