Help me understand something about jam...

Is there a difference between jam and jelly, or are they two names for the same thing?

I like jam, but not jelly. Jelly is just like a fruit flavored gel. Jam actually has pieces of fruit in it.

Jam has to have some of the fruit, not just the juice. Give me a can of Welch's and I can make grape jelly (but why I'd do so is another question).

9. I can't always tell the difference. But I've seen strawberry

jam, jelly, and preserves. And they were different. Maybe preserves have more fruit, less water?
