What's your favorite love song?
I really like Van Morrison's Crazy Love ... but I'm also partial to Phish's Waste. What are your favorites?

6. Yuck!
I like a tune called "The Desired Effect" by guitarist Mike Keneally on his CD Boil That Dust Speck. (Keneally used to play in Zappa's band, and still plays in Steve Vai's band, and he's just as good.)

And, even after all these years, I'm still fond of "God Only Knows."

9. it's an old one that I discovered a year ago
I don't know the name

it's by a guy named peter cetera, and it goes:

I guess it's just the nature of the beast
when you love somebody, so passionately
time has a way of staying
that raging fire feeling
leaving the ashes lying at your feet
those fools of little faith will never know
those higher places two hears can go
where time is standing still
and love will burn until
the Heaven and the Earth have come and gone

21. oh thats a good one!
Kiss From A Rose"

There used to be a greying tower alone on the sea.
You became the light on the dark side of me.
Love remained a drug that's the high and not the pill.
But did you know,
That when it snows,
My eyes become large and
The light that you shine can be seen.
Baby,
I compare you to a kiss from a rose on the grey.
Ooh,
The more I get of you,
Stranger it feels, yeah.
And now that your rose is in bloom.
A light hits the gloom on the grave.
There is so much a man can tell you,
So much he can say.
You remain,
My power, my pleasure, my pain, baby
To me you're like a growing addiction that I can't deny.
Won't you tell me is that healthy, baby?
But did you know,
That when it snows,
My eyes become large and the light that you shine can be seen.
Baby,
I compare you to a kiss from a rose on the grey.
Ooh, the more I get of you
Stranger it feels, yeah
Now that your rose is in bloom.
A light hits the gloom on the grave,
I've been kissed by a rose on the grave,
I've been kissed by a rose
I've been kissed by a rose on the grave,
...And if I should fall along the way
I've been kissed by a rose
...been kissed by a rose on the grave.
There is so much a man can tell you,
So much he can say.
You remain
My power, my pleasure, my pain.
To me you're like a growing addiction that I can't deny, yeah
Won't you tell me is that healthy, baby.
But did you know,
That when it snows,
My eyes become large and the light that you shine can be seen.
Baby,
I compare you to a kiss from a rose on the grey.
Ooh, the more I get of you
Stranger it feels, yeah
Now that your rose is in bloom,
A light hits the gloom on the grave.
Yes I compare you to a kiss from a rose on the grey
Ooh, the more I get of you
Stranger it feels, yeah
And now that your rose is in bloom
A light hits the gloom on the grave
Now that your rose is in bloom,
A light hits the gloom on the grave.

17. 'Up Where We Belong' by Joe Cocker & Jennifer Warnes
Who knows what tomorrow brings
In a world few hearts survive

All I know is the way I feel
When it’s real
I keep it alive
The road is long
There are mountains in our way
But we climb a step ev’ry day

Love lift us up where we belong
Where the eagles cry on a mountain high
Love lift us up where we belong
Far from the world we below
Up where the clear winds blow

Some hang on to used-to-be
Live their lives looking behind

All we have is here and now
All our life
Out there to find

The road is long
There are mountains in our way
But we climb a step ev’ry day

Love lift us up where we belong
Where the eagles cry on a mountain high
Love lift us up where we belong
Far from the world we know
Up where the clear winds blow

Time goes by
No time to cry
Life’s you and I
Alive
Today

Love lift us up where we belong
Where the eagles cry on a mountain high
Love lift us up where we belong
Far from the world we know
Where the clear winds blow

Love lift us up where we belong
Where the eagles cry on a mountain high
Love lift us up where we belong
Far from the world we know
Up where the clear winds blow

Will your wedding be in Paris or in Lansing? It won't matter will it?

But I think Book of Love is probably the best "love song" on the album. I've just recently been listening to it alot again and found a bunch of songs on the second disc that I didn't notice as much when I first bought it. Epitaph For My Heart is an awesome song. That album is one of my most treasured posessions. Listening to it in my car in the dark on the drive home from class at night is a truly sublime experience.

23. "There is a Light That Never Goes Out" by The Smiths
"And if a double-decker bus
Crashes into us
To die by your side
What a heavenly way to die
And if a ten-ton truck
Kills the both of us
To die by your side
Well, the pleasure, the privilege is mine."

Heartfelt yet cynical enough for even a cold-hearted bastard like myself to appreciate.

25. "La Vie en Rose" by Edith PIlaf.....
It's simple beautiful

La Vie En Rose
Des Yeux Qui Font Baisser Les Miens
Un Rire Qui Se Perd Sur Sa Bouche
Voila Le Portrait Sans Retouche
De L'homme Auguel J'appartiens
Quand Il Me Prend Dans Ses Bras,
Il Me Parle Tout Bas
Je Vois La Vie En Rose,
Il Me Dit Des Mots D'amour
Das Mots De Tous Les Jours,
Et Ca Me Fait Quelques Choses
Il Est Entre Dans Mon Coeur,
Une Part De Bonheur
Dont Je Connais La Cause, C'est Lui Pour
Moi, Moi Pour Lui Dans La Vie
Il Me L'a Dit, L'a Jure Pour La Vie,
Et Des Que Je L'apercois
Alors Je Sens En Moi, Mon Coeur Qui Bat...
Des Nuits D'amour A Plus Finir
Un Grand Bonheur Qui Prend Sa Place
Les Ennuis, Des Chagrins S'effacent
Heureux, Heureux A En Mourir

and in English:

Hold me close and hold me fast
The magic spell you cast
This is la vie en rose

When you kiss me heaven sighs
And tho I close my eyes
I see la vie en rose

When you press me to your heart
I?m in a world apart
A world where roses bloom

And when you speak...angels sing from above
Everyday words seem...to turn into love songs

Give your heart and soul to me
And life will always be
La vie en rose

27. "Cannonball" by Damien Rice
Still a little bit of your taste in my mouth
Still a little bit of you laced with my doubt
Still a little hard to say what's going on

Still a little bit of your ghost your witness
Still a little BIT of your face I haven't kissed
You step a little closer each day
Still I can't say what's going on

Stones taught me to fly
Love taught me to lie
Life taught me to die
So it's not hard to fall
When you float like a cannonball

Still a little bit of your song in my ear
Still a little bit of your words I long to hear
You step a little closer to me
So close that I can't see what's going on

Stones taught me to fly
Love taught me to lie
Life taught me to die
So it's not hard to fall
When you float like a cannon

Stones taught me to fly
Love taught me to cry
So come on courage!
Teach me to be shy
'Cause it's not hard to fall
And I don't wanna scare her
It's not hard to fall
And I don't wanna lose
It's not hard to grow
When you know that you just don't know

37. "One of the Best Ones"- Bruce Cockburn
Guess I'd get along without you
If I had no choice
It's taken me this long to find you

Done a lot of getting ready for this
Some things we learn so slow
But look at you, you've got plenty behind you

There's lots of ways to hit the ground
Not many answers to be found
We're faced with mysteries profound
And this is one of the best ones

There are eight million mysteries
In the naked body
Can't even sight on some distant horizon

Like the nine billion names of God
Don't bring you any closer
To anyone you can simply set eyes on

But in the same way it's as real
Don't always recognize what I feel
But of the dancing scenes that life reveals
This is one of the best ones

Say what you will
There's no snake oil or pill
Can make love less painful or fine
There's no theatre
Even of the absurd
Can express what goes on in this meeting of hearts and minds

Guess I'd get along without you
If I had no choice
But please never make it so I have to

Paid a lot of dues to get here
And after all this life
I'm a loser if I don't live with you

There's lots of ways to hit the ground
Not many answers to be found
We're faced with mysteries profound
And this is one of the best ones

Very special to reprehensor and I. The music always gives me chills and makes me well up a bit.

40. Beautiful - Gordon Lightfoot
At times I just don't know
How you could be anything but beautiful
I think that I was made for you
And you were made for me
And I know that I won't ever change
Cause we've been friends through rain or shine
For such a long, long time

Laughing eyes and smiling face
It's seems so lucky just to have the right
Of telling you with all my might
You're beautiful tonight

And I know that you won't ever stray
Cause you've been that way from day to day
For such a long, long time

And when ya hold me tight
How could life be anything but beautiful
I think that I was made for you
And you were made for me

And I know that I won't ever change
Cause we've been friends through rain or shine
For such a long, long time

And I must say it means so much to me
To be the one who's telling you
I'm telling you
That you're beautiful

49. What Are You Doing the Rest Of Your Life?
Edited on Fri Feb-11-05 05:26 PM by donheld

-Music by Michel Legrand lyrics by Alan Bergman and Marilyn Bergman

What are you doing the rest of your life?
North and South and East and West of your life
I have only one request of your life
That you spend it all with me

All the seasons and the times of your days
All the nickels and the dimes of your days
Let the reasons and the rhymes of your days
All begin and end with me

I want to see your face in every kind of light
In the fields of dawn and the forests of the night
And when you stand before the candles on a cake
Oh, let me be the one to hear the silent wish you make

Those tomorrows waiting deep in your eyes
In the world of love that you keep in your eyes
I'll awaken what's asleep in your eyes
It may take a kiss or two

Through all of my life
Summer, Winter, Spring, and Fall of my life
All I ever will recall of my life
Is all of my life with you

53. At Last
Etta James

At last
My love has come along
My lonely days over
And life is like a song

Ooh, at last
The skies above are blue
Well my heart was wrapped up in clover
The night I looked at you

I found a dream
That I could speak to
A dream that I could call my own
I found a thrill
To press my cheek to
A thrill that I have never known

You smile
you smile
Oh and then the spell was cast
And here we are in heaven
For you are mine at last

66. LOL I was confuzzled
I was righly corrected in my moment of confuzzlement, and kept McCartney on there because he donated his voice.

:)

George Harrison R.I.P. His best was "While My Guitar Gently Weeps". Love that one.

57. Some Enchanted Evening - Mario Lanza
Some enchanted evening
You may see a stranger,
you may see a stranger
Across a crowded room
And somehow you know,
You know even then
That somewhere you'll see her
Again and again.

Some enchanted evening
Someone may be laughin',
You may hear her laughin'
Across a crowded room
And night after night,
As strange as it seems
The sound of her laughter
Will sing in your dreams.

Who can explain it?
Who can tell you why?
Fools give you reasons,
Wise men never try.

Some enchanted evening
When you find your true love,
When you feel her call you
Across a crowded room,
Then fly to her side,
And make her your own
For all through your life you
May dream all alone.

Once you have found her,
Never let her go.
Once you have found her,
Never let her go!

65. Grow Old With Me by John Lennon
my wedding song.

Grow old along with me
The best is yet to be
When our time has come
We will be as one
God bless our love
God bless our love

Grow old along with me
Two branches of one tree
Face the setting sun
When the day is done
God bless our love
God bless our love

Spending our lives together
Man and wife together
World without end
World without end

Grow old along with me
Whatever fate decrees
We will see it through
For our love is true
God bless our love
God bless our love

sung by Mary Chappin Carpenter on the Working Class Hero tribute cd.

69. The Book of Love - Stephin Merit
The book of love is long and boring
No one can lift the damn thing
It's full of charts and facts and figures and instructions for dancing
But I
I love it when you read to me
And you
You can read me anything
The book of love has music in it
In fact that's where music comes from
Some of it is just transcendental
Some of it is just really dumb

Peter Gabriel did a very nice cover of it for the Shall We Dance movie soundtrack, which movie was a very bad cover of a Japanese movie (of the same name, I believe)

81. Love Minus Zero / No Limit ...by Dylan
My love she speaks like silence,
Without ideals or violence,
She doesn't have to say she's faithful,
Yet she's true, like ice, like fire.
People carry roses,
Make promises by the hours,
My love she laughs like the flowers,
Valentines can't buy her.

In the dime stores and bus stations,
People talk of situations,
Read books, repeat quotations,
Draw conclusions on the wall.
Some speak of the future,
My love she speaks softly,
She knows there's no success like failure
And that failure's no success at all.

The cloak and dagger dangles,
Madams light the candles.
In ceremonies of the horsemen,
Even the pawn must hold a grudge.
Statues made of match sticks,
Crumble into one another,
My love winks, she does not bother,
She knows too much to argue or to judge.

The bridge at midnight trembles,
The country doctor rambles,
Bankers' nieces seek perfection,
Expecting all the gifts that wise men bring.
The wind howls like a hammer,
The night blows cold and rainy,
My love she's like some raven
At my window with a broken wing.

83. "Fake Plastic Trees" by Radiohead
A green plastic watering can
For a fake chinese rubber plant
In the fake plastic earth

That she bought from a rubber man
In a town full of rubber plans
To get rid of itself

It wears her out, it wears her out
It wears her out, it wears her out

She lives with a broken man
A cracked polystyrene man
Who just crumbles and burns

He used to do surgery
On girls in the eighties
But gravity always wins

And it wears him out, it wears him out
It wears him out, it wears him out

She looks like the real thing
She tastes like the real thing
My fake plastic love

But I can't help the feeling
I could blow through the ceiling
If I just turn and run

And it wears me out, it wears me out
It wears me out, it wears me out

And if I could be who you wanted
If I could be who you wanted
All the time, all the time

86. When a Man Loves a Woman
I think Percy Sledge sang it, and it was the first song I slow danced to. I'll never forget it. The summer of 1968, the party at Roberta's house where I met my first true love, three weeks before the start of 9th grade.

If you're out there in DU-land somewhere, my love, I am SO OVER YOU!! Just wanted to let you know that since I haven't seen you since 10th grade when you dumped me.

Anyway, that's still my favorite love song.
