16. He wasn't permitted to
different rules apply to Royals (even though many people worldwide are forced into marriages they don't want). He told the Queen that he was in love with Camilla before he married Diana-but he was expected to follow through with the sham marriage anyway.

Love is blind-so who are we to be so shallow as to put more value on one human being than another simply because one is young and beautiful, and the other is not?

24. Most supermodels are hopelessly insecure
a dear friend of mine is a former supermodel. From all the stories she's told me, most of her fellow models are so full of cocaine, diet pills and anti-depressants that the vapid dead look you see on their faces requires little acting. Most would rather eat or sleep than be with a man. Hard to blame them when their only sense of value is in being an image.

63. And most are freakishly unappealing
Edited on Sat Feb-12-05 04:00 AM by Vektor
in real life. While the make-up, hair, cameras, and lights can work wonders on film, (and airbrushing) in many cases, a pallid, emaciated, sleepless, heavily caffeinated girl who smokes constantly and weighs 100 pounds at 6' tall is NOT always a pleasant thing to see. In fact, a large percentage of them are ghastly. Supermodels are selected for being freakishly tall, thin, gaunt, and angular - and while that transforms well in advertising, in person, it doesn't.

I have seen teen-aged girls so doped up on heroin that they literally have to be propped up for a shoot, then taken to the hospital, since getting the shot comes first. I've also witnessed girls inducing vomiting right before being photographed to make their stomachs look flatter.

Fasting for days before a runway show, and subsisting on Marlboro Reds and Diet Coke only keeps you "pretty" for so long.

73. One summer in Tokyo, I lived in a rooming house whose residents
included American models who were cashing in on the lucrative assignments that were available there.

One of them, a tall, gaunt young woman who was not particularly good-looking, showed us her portfolio. The photographers could make her look like Grace Kelly, which she most assuredly did not look like in real life.

83. Right -
Mostly they are tall and gaunt, and have very generic boxy features that have a characterless symmetry about them that can be made up in any way the designers want - like a blank canvass. Don't get me wrong - there are a few pretty ones, but they'd look a lot nicer if they were healthier.

It's a hard living.

Just because Princess Diana was more attractive, it doesn't necessarily follow that she and the Prince were better suited for one another.

Marriage is (supposed to be) for life, and marrying based on your partners attractiveness is a pretty shallow reason.

He asked her first (before she was married) and she didn't want anything to do with the hoopla. Then she married and divorced and a divorcee was unacceptable for the Royals. So he got Diana, who was really nothing more than a brood mare to him. Camilla was always his heart's desire.

If anybody was 'betrayed' in all of this, it was Diana. Chuck and Camilla were playing around way before the engagement and wedding and never stopped. THAT'S betrayal.

She was 19 years old! He was 33 and Camilla was 35! Just who exactly do you think was duped?

18. He married Diana because she was a verifiable virgin
At the time, and I think still, the heir to the throne must marry a virgin so there is no question about the legitimacy of his heirs.

As I recall, he never wanted Diana. She was convenient and she was a virgin. Therefore she was acceptable to the royals to produce heirs.

35. Diana was a 19-year-old kid
when she got roped into this sham marriage. Do you think it was fair to her to be married to a man who wasn't in love with her, but with someone else? I think his indifference to her must have really hurt her a lot, and she may have turned to clothing and fashion as a substitute for the love she wasn't ever going to get. I think she's one of the victims.

Also, Camilla, even though she supposedly loved Charlie, turned around and married Andrew and had two kids with him. Then she dumped him for Charlie. Why did she ever marry him in the first place if she didn't love him? Seems like she was a "user."

I think Cammie and Charlie are *ssh*les. They trampled all over the lives and feelings of Diana, Andrew, and all of their kids. None of these people deserved this treatment. Thank heaven C & C are getting married. Hopefully they won't go wreck anyone else's lives.

I think it's GREAT that Charles married someone who is not a babe and is older than he is. Only a mature man with plenty of his own self esteem would do that. (As in the cases of Paul McCartney.....John Lennon....all men who could have virtually any woman in the world they wanted.)

33. Look, these people live in a fantasy world.
They are incredibly rich (for doing nothing worthwhile), privileged, fawned over, grovelled to, made to feel important here and listened to as if they had something intelligent to say. They're an anachronism and a sign that this country is never going to leave its feudal past behind. He had to find a young, pretty and, preferably, brainless woman to bear him pretty, white and probably brainless children. Preferably boys. So they can keep this ridiculous fantasy going for the next generation. Diana's father was so thrilled that this halfwit was going to marry his daughter that he even went on TV and pointed out proudly that she was a virgin. The halfwit was fucking this old tart before they even found Diana to play her part. The only flaw in their plans was that Diana turned out to be smarter, more human/humane and more popular than the lot of them. Now she's conveniently dead and they can all go back to doing what they do best, which is revelling in their greedy, useless little fantasy lives.

All I'm saying is that, unless one knows Charles, Diana and Camilla personally, it's impossible to guess anyone chose anyone. And basing it on looks is not only ridiculous, it's just plain mean. Especially the posters who starting making up horrible nicknames for her just because she's not their idea of attractive.

It's one thing to call Condoleeza, or BushCo names because their actions and their lies make them ugly regardless of their looks. But unless I've missed the news stories, what horrible crimes has Camilla perpetrated against humanity that would qualify her for such bile?

right from Day One of the marriage is kind of nasty in my book. Marrying a man she probably didn't care about, screwing around behind her own husband's back, then dumping him. Ok, not horrible crimes against humanity, perhaps, but Camilla is definitely not someone I'd invite to dinner at my house. She's disgusting.

72. Yeah I guess, but like I said with Clinton,
that's nobody's business but the people involved. They all could be complete jerks, who knows?

76. it was all over the news, first person interviews and on tapes

If you are young and innocent, love your husband, are faithful to your husband and pregnant, are you going to be just a bit upset that you strongly suspect he is screwing a married woman constantly and long term behind your back? That he is lying to you about it constantly ? That he is using you as a breed cow? I watched his interview and he admitted this affair started before he was married and he never quit it while he was married. I don't have to "know" Charles on a personal basis to decide this guy is a true slug any more than I have to listen to Bush talking for 5 seconds on gay marriage that he's anti-gay rights.

Camilla is the poster girl for infidelity and deceit to her own husband and family and partly responsible for breaking up the marriage of another couple. Charles is on the same level as Camilla. These two people deserve no titles and no rewards for their long term despicable and immoral behavior. What is there to admire or respect about these people...their long term behavior while they were married to others shows they are selfish and contemptible. They deserve each other, they are two of a kind.

48. Well if we're going on looks alone....
Then why why WHY in the hell does someone who looks like Prince Charles have the opportunity to *pick* between Princess Di and Camilla??

Camilla may not be as elegant as Di, but if we're going on looks alone, then the two women should have ditched dumbo and run off with each other.

61. No, no, no -- the real question is: WHO CARES?
I mean, we are talking about Prince Charle de Wales here, a man who has singlehandedly reinvented the concept of irrelevancy for the 21st Century in a way that gives it startling new depth and meaning.

62. I thought you were going to ask
Where he got that strange jacket with the red collar tabs and the red cuffs or whatever. Did he borrow it from some hotel doorman?

66. This is all about Charles needing to marry within his species-
one lizzard to another. You don't have to believe the David Ickes book to appreciate the possibilities. Which also detail a theory of her murder by the lizzard family she married into. Good stuff, fact or fiction.

74. I wonder about the relative ages of the people who are Diana partisans
versus Camilla partisans.

I attend a water aerobics class with a group of women who are almost all over 50 (the youngest is in her forties).

Their reaction was universally, "That's who he should have married in the first place."

I wonder if the defenders of Diana are younger and identifying with her as a twenty-year-old who married into a tough environment.

77. I'm almost 53
and I feel sorry for what happened to Diana.
Yes, Cammie and Charlie should have married each other in the first place.
But neither of them had any right to wreck the lives of Diana, Andrew, and the 4 kids who've had to grow up with all the divorce and adultery issues.

79. You know, interesting point. I think he should have married
Camilla but I also think once he married Diana, that's it, stay away from Camilla. The fact he had the long term affair behind his wife's back is so evil. Lying to your wife when she is pregnant and things like that, bedding down another woman for the whole term of a marriage, oh my god.

75. What a ridiculously offensive question
I have absolutely no interest in the british royal family and their shenanigans but the assumption that people who are not beautiful are somehow unworthy of love is really shitty. As to why he didn't marry her instead, who the hell knows or cares? Probably because she was married and the british public and his dear old mum would have thrown a fit.

Can we please stop equating a person's looks with their value?

Elton John would never be writting songs about Camilla...
