HawkerHurricane's NFL power ratings, week 5!
Here we go yet again with HawkerHurricane’s weekly NFL power ratings.

The rules are the same: 1 point for each win. 1 additional point for every win the teams you defeated get.
New tiebreaker: best record. In case of tie there also, my opinion.
And, in a change of format, I will now list them ‘worst to first’, and number them…
Last weeks placement in parens…
Now, let’s see some comments on this! I’m not going to stop posting these just because nobody comments!

32. San Diego Chargers(32) 0 points, 0-5. Some things never change.

31. NY Jets(30) 0 points, 0-5. Only because Jacksonville won.

30. Jacksonville Jaguars(31) 1 point, 1-4. Beating the Chargers a little better than losing to them.

29. Detroit Lions(27) 2 points, 1-4. Still not impressed.

28. New Orleans Saints(24) 3 points, 1-4. Ain’ts at it again.

27. Cincinati Bengals(25) 3 points, 1-4. Winning streak ends at one game.

26. Chicago Bears(29) 3 points, 1-3. 1-3 is better than 1-4, right?

25. Oakland Raiders(20) 3 points, 2-3. And 2-3 is better than 1-3. Underranked? Maybe.

24. Arizona Cardinals(22) 4 points, 1-4. Overranked?

23. Atlanta Falcans(23) 4 points, 1-4. No movement. Stagnant.

22. San Francisco 49rs(28) 4 point, 2-3. A win is a win.

21. Baltimore Ravens(19) 4 points, 2-2. Almost forgot them!

20. Pittsburgh Steelers(9) 5 points, 2-3. Points say overranked last week.

19. Tampa Bay Bucceneers(10) 5 points, 2-2. Overtime loss to Colts cost them 4 points.

18. St. Louis Rams(14) 5 points, 2-2. Lost ground do to bye week. (excuses, excuses)

17. Cleveland Browns(27) 6 points, 2-3. Almost forgot.

16. Houston Texans(16) 6 points, 2-2. Bye week hurts them too.

15. Dallas Cowboys(13) 6 points, 3-1. I know I’m going to get comments for this.

14. Seattle Seahawks(5) 6 points, 3-1. The mighty have fallen!

13. NY Giants(6) 7 points, 2-2. Only once, Hawk, only once!

12. Washington Redskins(8) 7 points, 3-2. Probably should be under the Giants, but better record.

11. Philadelphia Eagles(21) 8 points, 2-2. Underranked last week?

10. Tennessee Titans(11) 8 points, 3-2. Not forgotten this time.

9. New England Patriots(17) 8 points, 3-2. Beat Titans. Didn’t beat Green Bay.

8. Buffalo Bills(15) 8 points, 3-2 Too many 8 point teams. Someone will not like this.

7. Green Bay Packers(18) 8 points, 3-2. I like Green Bay. A good sportswriter admits his bias.

6. Miami Dolphins(12) 8 points, 3-1. Ahead on the tie breaker.

5. Denver Broncos(3) 8 points, 4-1. Painful loss hurts their standings.

4. Carolina Panthers(7) 9 points, 4-0. Face Indianapolis in a battle of undefeateds next week.

3. Minnesota Vikings(4) 13 points, 5-0. Vikings get bye, will remain undefeated next week.

2. Indianapolis Colts(2) 14 points, 5-0. Beat the Panthers, go to first I bet.

1. Kansas City Chiefs(1) 15 points, 5-0. Squeek win gives them points, and stay the best.

Note: San Diego Union-Tribune insists that Seattle is 2-1 in spite of all evidence to the contrary. So I will blame them for any mistakes here.

1. I disagree
Denver Broncos should have been #1 -- they led the entire game, up until that cheating Daunte Hall ran a punt back for a touchdown.

Daunte Hall - four returns for touchdowns, in five weeks? Statistical impossibility. I demand the NFL begin an immediate investigation to this fraud.

Besides, I saw SEVERAL penalties happening against KC on that runback. One included blocking from the back that the refs completely missed. Revenge is at hand in December when KC loses and Daunte Hall is injured.

3. I didn't watch the game
because it wasn't on TV in my area(but the assholes at CBS showed two 0-4 teams play eachother  ) But I don't think Dante Hall cheated, yes 4 kickoff returns in 4 straight games is highly unlikely but can be done.

4. Are you kidding me??
Broncos number 1??? I guess your just being a homer or a Broncos lifer. KC is better than Denver...Indy is better, so is Tampa. Yes there was a block in the back on that return by Hall, but he still made your team look like a bunch of stiffs...dancing round them left and right. Dont blame the refs for thier shortcomings.

PS wishing a player or anyone gets injured is pretty lame.

8. The Broncos
had more passing yards, more rushing yards, and more first downs then the Chiefs. It is still way to early to decide who is better, but to say the Chiefs are better because they won by one point at home is proving my point. Many teams have started slow in the season and still won the Super Bowl, the best example is the 2000 Ravens, the Broncos are 4-1, and the Broncos will beat the Chiefs at home, they were the better team but Dante Hall is a tremedous athlete who broke on and made the difference. Also it did look like there was block in the back, but Dante Hall is the most elusive man in the NFL.

12. Leading the whole game sounds good...
But the only score that counts is at the final.

2. How are not impressed with the Lions?
Edited on Tue Oct-07-03 11:32 AM by VermontDem2004
granted they only won one game but they only lost by 10 to the undefeated Vikings, only lost by 4 to the 4-1 Broncos, and only lost by 7 to the 49ers.

13. I dunno
Maybe I just don't care about the Lions. They beat Arizona good, got creamed by the Pack, lost to the Vikes, came close against Denver, and came up short in a comeback against SF. I'm not impressed, but hey, maybe that's me.

21. I agree, Vermont!
Unfortunately, Charles Rogers broke his collarbone in practice today. That might mean the Lions are ranked just about right for now.

5. Vikes have 3 home games in a row
after their bye this week!

The Thunderdome's gonna be a-rockin'!

I'm looking forward to a rematch of Superbowl IV, as are my Chief-lovin' friends!

6. Vikes to lose to Broncos
in two weeks. Guaran-damn-teed.

Gus Frerotte was our former backup two years ago. We know his stuff.

Daunte better be ready by then.

9. I don't know
The Broncos have a great D-Line and Linebackers but their secondary is very shakey, they better hope and pray they don't give up to many big plays like they did in KC.

10. Indy having to come back with a miracle
against TB drops them a place or two for me.

KC is no doubt on top. Anyone who says otherwise is just a homer.

Tampa Bay should be higher, even after blowing that lead. It was Indy after all, but you're putting them behind the rams, the texans, and my own boys?? That's ridiculous

What is up with Oakland? And yes I think they're underranked but they have a lot to prove after this start. Arizona is indeed overanked. They're just bad.

The Eagles are overranked. It must be because you're overrating the quarterblack. ;)

Are my boys overranked? I dunno. It's amazing to see them 3-1. And they are playing good ball right now.

NE and GB may be overranked. We will see.

I think NYG may be exposed too.

11. They came back
to beat the Defending Super Bowl Champs, no QB is doing better then Peyton Manning to this point and the defense has improved dramatically and should be ranked #1. KC gave up more passing yards and more rushing yards and more first downs but Hall managed to shake a few guys and score a touchdown to win by 1 point at home.

15. TB allowing the comeback
loses points with me, but not the system. TB should be ranked over the Rams probably, but I'm biased. Equal points, equal records...Rams lost a close one to Seattle, Bucs lost a close one to Colts...

I mean the seahawks were undefeated til this week...THE SEAHAWKS. I'd have put Miami one up at 5 but that's just me O8)

18. OK. I'll pipe up!
The Cardinals are overranked. The win against Green Bay looks more and more like the heat-related fluke of the year. The Cards haven't even been close in their four losses.

Anyway, I'd take any of the other one win teams against the Cards.

Hey, you thought I'd harp on something different? Nope. Not me.

Oh, and I'd put Tennessee at number 7 with the Pack at number 10. The lack of defense in Green Bay is going to make them an up and down team all year.

19. check that
The Cards were playing a close game with the Lions all the way up into the later parts of the 4th quarter, the final score may not appear that way but the game was constantly back and forth, it was like watching a Pac-10 Shootout.

It was tight until the halftime. The Lions dominated in the second half.

23. Cards 5 spots ahead of Lions with same record?
Lions beat the Cards handily, and the Cards are that much better? You sure you're ranking American football teams and not soccer?

24. Same problem as last week...
Cards beat Pack, and the Pack is worth 4 points.

Lions beat Cards, and the Cards are worth 2 points.

It's not a perfect system. I'll tweak it next year. I should have more free time then.
