Helicopter rescues Hummer, driver cited

It took an extreme helicopter manuever to rescue seven people who were in a Hummer that tried to cross the flooded Cave Creek Wash last night.
"We landed the helicopter...on top of the roof of the vehicle, and extracted seven people including three children, ages 9 through 15," says Lt. Paul Chagolla of the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office.

He says the driver had apparently been warned by a citizen not to cross the wash, but thought he could because he had a Hummer.

Fortunately, no one was hurt.

The man was cited for reckless driving and could have to pay for the costs of the rescue if convicted.

capable. In fact, with the fording kit, you can drive the thing while having to hold your breath since it cross rivers that are 6 feet deep.

Unfortunately, this asshole didn't have one of those, he's just another dumbfuck poser, and needs to be billed the full amount of this "rescue" - althought I'd be equally unconcerned if him and his entire family were washed away :eyes:

4. Definitely a difference

No one NEEDS a Humvee, which is a true offroad military vehicle. A "Hummer" on the other hand is either a blow job, or a grossly overweight vehicle sitting on a shitty frame. The commercial Hummers are absolute pieces of shit. I love when I pull up to the pumps and see where some dumbshit freeper just paid $75 to fill up their truck (aka penis extension) for the week. Brings a smile to my face.

9. Ah, but want and need aren't the same

Meaning, I can't think of a situation where a humvee would be the only solution. However, if you took the time and effort to convert yours to a vegatable oil, or even a hemp-based fuel, I'd give you kudos, and I wouldn't have the slightest disdain for you. If you do something like this, please post pics. Would you do it yourself or take it to someone? I just don't think I have the skills.

11. What's cool about a diesel engine is...

it is a multi-fuel engine. It runs fine on vegetable based oils.

Now combine a small diesel, ran on veggy oil, into the hybrid technology and we have got something! And what a great way to use our vegetable oil waste!!

That means that only 20% is "vegtable oil fueled" - as it indicates in your pic, 80% is just regular ole diesel. Volkwagen tested a Jetta Diesel that runs on 100% bio, but it is still in it's infancy/

And the cost - and availability -

Environmentally speaking, ur better off with ethanol, and Foreign auto makers as well some of the big 3 already make vehicles that run on what they call E85, or 85% ethanol. Regular ethanol(which can be used in most vehicles without modifications) at the pumps is around 15%, but not higher.

And you can buy the ethanol almost anywhere, even in my small town in Northern Ontario of around 2000 souls.

Biodiesel: Biodiesel refers to a diesel fuel produced by reacting vegetable oils with methanol or ethanol. Biodiesel is commonly used in a blend with 80% standard diesel fuel, a blend known as B20. Biodiesel can be used in compression-ignition engines with little or no modification.

Biodiesel is physically very similar to regular diesel fuel, and there has been no indication that any materials compatibility issues have arisen with metals used in the distribution, storage, dispensing, or onboard use of biodiesel. Live TV showed children ages 9, 12 and 15, and four adults climbing through the moonroof to be picked up one by one by a rescue helicopter.

Chagolla said the Hummer drove through the washed out road near 5200 E. Cloud Road even though traffic was warned to stay out of the area.

"We will interview the driver, and if he purposefully put themselves and his passengers in danger, we will issue a citation to him," Chagolla said. Under the state’s stupid motorist law, the driver could be responsible for fines and the cost of the rescue.

Anytime we get heavy rains there is always someone who thinks he can pull this stuff off.

As far as I know, no one has died yet, so I feel little shame in a laugh at these idiot's expense. Any longtime AZer can tell you what happens in a heavy rain. Also, the Transportaion Dept. and the news media constantly warn people to stay out of the washes or not to drive across them.

I've even seen them rev up to try. People actually pull off and watch to see if they get stuck; it's pretty amusing, actually.
