A St Louis area marine has embarked on raising money to buy Oakley sunglasses for his fellow marines. Seems the lenses are stronger than those found on sunglasses provided by the government. We think about the body armor, but what about the eye armor?

That's why they're required to wear protective goggles all the time. Nick, who is a turret gunner, has been wearing ones made by Oakley. He feels they're more durable than the clear goggles issued by the Marines. Tomye said, "If you have scratched clear lenses and you're trying to see somebody around the corner or in a window, you can't see them because you have glare."
Oakley also makes lenses, which they say are shatterproof. Nick believes that saved his eyes a couple of months ago. Tomye said, "He was going 60mph and a wire from an overpass hit him in the face and it cut his face. It hit his glasses really hard but they did not break."
Tomye is helping her son raise money to buy other Marines the same glasses. The Alpine Shop in Kirkwood has been helping to collect donations. Danny Burns of The Alpine Shop said, "What the shop is doing is matching dollar for dollar what the public is donating." They're also helping Tomye buy the glasses at cost.
