Who here has Tivo?

And what do you think of it? I haven't had cable in two years, but there are some shows on now that sound really interesting so I'm thinking about getting it again. And Tivo sounds like it would be perfect for me. I could just set it to record what shows I want to watch. And the ability to hook it up to my computer and edit it in programs like Final Cut Pro. Ooohh, I could have a lot of fun with The O'Reilly Factor doing that. :evilgrin:

Anyway, what say you Tivo owners?

1. When I switched from Dish to DirecTV we got the new TIVO

reciever. We absolutely love it!

3. I wished I hadn't taught my wife how to use it, now I have to wade

through a list of recorded Oprahs to find my fishing shows.

2. I've had it since early on

and I can honestly say it's the one consumer electronics product I coldn't do without anymore. It's the best.

5. have Tivo now ~7 months

I love it.

One point of warning: You can save some $$ by buying the lifetime subscription (in about 2 years of use)... but lifetime coverage is ONLY for the machine... aka It's not your lifetime covered. It IS the lifetime of the machine.

4. It's very convenient

We rarely ever watch programs in real time anymore, so we can fast forward through commercials. I would advise turning off the function where it automatically records programs it thinks you will like. When we first got ours, it filled the hard drive with reruns of "The Drew Carey Show" for some inexplicable reason.

8. LEAVE the auto record on...

just use the thumbs up and thumb down to rank things...

it will learn your likes & result in things being recorded w/o your needing to set it (which is easy enough anyway)

Here's hoping you love it.


PLUS... the things that are auto recorded will be auto-deleted to make room for the things you set to be recorded yourself.

6. I cannot recommend TiVo enough.

If you are a TV fan, it changes your life.

7. We have Replay

We got the last model before the lawsuits pulled all the good features off the system. Replay got sued into oblivion because it allowed users to automatically remove commercials and send the files to people via email.

Its also very hackable. I have already removed the harddrive they included and jammed a 60 gig drive in its place.
