It is not good to become fanatical about a rock band.
This is from an interview with Noel Gallagher for Access Magazine in November 1997.

Interviewer: The context of some of your lyrics is fascinating. Like that line "Don't put your life in the hands of a rock & roll band" in 'Don't Look Back In Anger'. That line could be a quote from (right-wing consevative British politician) Mary Whitehouse.

Noel: Yeah, it does sound like a warning from a worried parent, doesn't it? But if the band is Oasis, of course it's okay to put your life in our hands. But the thing is, I also meant it as a warning. What I was saying with that particular line was, "Okay, Oasis is a great band and we're real and you can trust us. But do not build your life around us, 'cause any rock band can split up at any time, and if you've built your life around it, and the band splits up, you'll be left with no life." I was saying to the fans, "Make sure you've got something else to fall back on."

I think that this advice, of not getting so into a rock band that you build your life around it, is good advice, especially from someone who's music rock fans are in danger of becoming fanatical about due to it's impressive quality.

1. I didn't think that there are people that were that......
...stupid/weak/insecure/uneducated enough to put their life in any Rock Band.
Maybe I need to get out more. On second thought..I don't want to know..

7. I'd say the guy who shot Dimebag Darrell was one of those people
Put his life in Pantera. Not a good thing.

I've attended "The Fest For Beatles Fans", and there you will see people who are very much enamored with The Beatles.

5. The rest of his quote should have been:
"...particularly if the band who's hands you're putting your life into happens to be a predictable, prefabricated and finitely talented bunch of press-darlings who are more sizzle than actual steak, like Oasis."

6. There are Dylan fans out there
who need to be told that dylanology is not a legitimate intellectual pursuit. The hard core of Dylan fanatics are scarier than Deadheads.
