3. Buy a Mac then take a trip to Europe, where you can buy a Rolls Royce....
I don't believe that was the answer looked for.

6. Does iMovie (or iDVD) read mpg, mpeg2, avi and other formats?

2. try this
use the "Make data DVD" option in startsmart or a data-based option rather than a video-based option.

7. OK, now we're getting someplace.
My wife has Nero (that I bought for her) and as I recall, the express version does not let your burn stuff.

I think if you're not going to buy the full-blown Nero (which my wife seems to dislike) you can download some free players like Winamp, that will burn to CD.

MusicMatch free version may do as well. I have a pay version, and it works great, even printing covers and cuts etc.

I'm a little out of my league, but as far as I know, Nero express probably will not do it.

Any other DU'ers have a better idea. (AND no Mac purchases, please.)

20. It's very possible, but a little time-intensive
You'd be better off using dvd authoring software like Ulead's or Tmpg;s that will automate the process for you the same way iMovie would.

8. You need the full version of Nero
or Roxio, or a program called Studio 8. I actually like Nero the best - I have had no problems with it. You can download a trial of the full version at http://www.nero.com and see if you like it before you shell out the $$. I don't know of any free or lower cost solutions but someone might.

15. You need to use a program that does DVD authoring
iMovie is just an example, but it's only available for Mac. Luckily for you, there are a billion options for PC. One excellent one is Ulead's DVD Movie Factory. It'll take care of everything you need.

18. If you have Nero 5.5
then Nero Express will burn dvds, no problem. You may have to upgrade the version that came with your computer, as I did, but this can be done with a download to 5.5 which will give you the dvd or cdr option, if it finds a dvd burner on your system of course.

19. Cannot make dvd-video compliant dvds
from anything except .vobs, etc. Strictly speaking, Nero VisionExpress can convert .avis or .mpgs to dvd-compliant formats, but that's not included in the normal Nero suite.
