"If I played a murderer I can play a Republican"
Alan Alda burst up laughing, while being interviewed by Harry Smith on CBS Sunday Morning.

Well, that might not have been what he meant but that's how it came and he burst up laughing. He was responding to Smith' comment on Alda, a known liberal, playing s moderate Republican senator on the West Wing running for his party nomination.
