Anecdote on a woman voting for Arnold

My buddy works up in Sacramento. His office mgr, a twenty-something woman, showed up at the office after returning from a pro-Arnold rally yesterday, Arnold signage and all.

"How can you vote for this groper?" he asks.

"I don't care about that! It's just so exciting!"

I think that offers a pretty good idea of the vapidity many average voters are bringing to this election. And it scares me. They don't give a shit about how Arnold might actuall do as governor--they're just attracted to the bright lights and glamour.

On the silver lining side, I think Arnold is screwed should he get elected. Not sure how he thinks he's going to fix the budget without raising taxes, given a Democratic legislature, and the wrath of many a Democratic activist.

12. Unfair comparison

While Ventura was a dolt, he was his own dolt. To my knowledge, he was the only one who told the truth about the budget and what it would take to head off the mega deficit that Minnesota is stuck in now (the Dems & the Repugs got together to fudge the numbers and save their pet projects - and they overrode Ventura's veto).

2. The problem I see is this:

Gray Davis just passed a new budget in California which will help bring down the deficit; however, if Arnold wins folks will actually think it was Arnold that fixed the problem and NOT the person who passed the budget (Davis).

Brainless people. I've sensed the same exact thing that you shared with me. This isn't about finding someone qualified to be the governor, this is the excitement that someone with "Star Power" wants to be governor. Problem is, Arnold has had a decent movie in over a decade!!!

7. yes, that could happen, but

there's still the $8 billion shortfall next year, and we already had to cut budgets to the bone. And he's going to have to deal with much nasty fallout from all the cuts made in the current budget. The state has taken every nickel and dime out of the counties, who will now be harrassing the Guv with all their problems.

Just trying to be optimistic I guess!

You betcha. Once the lily-white paid throngs disperse after the theft of California, Arnold will stand alone. He won't have an Army of control around him like smirk. He will be protested and shouted down everywhere until his inevitable recall.
