8. Actually
Before the WWW became so popular, the internet was divided into several different "sections." The usenet was one element, the email another, and FTP and IRC were among others. I remember years ago, about 1990 or so for me, we used to dial directly into a BBS. Of course, back then there weren't as many people online, and mostly those of us who were, were either beginners or geeks. Colleges and universities and scientific researchers were the first outlets for working across the "internet" which was known as the ARPAnet initially.

So if you happen to be a geek, and if you are old enough to remember life before the Internet, you would know all that, but for the average person who only got online years later, the whole of the net has been integrated into one unit.

11. I remember that era- and I barely was aware of it even though I was
at a University. When I found out I had an email account through the job, my geeky brother-in-law was the only one who I could correspond with. Now it seems like everyone has 3-4 accounts and is connected every day.

I also remember when some attorneys started using the internet to advertise and how controversial the commercial use of the internet was. The people who used it originally really didn't want to see it taken over by commerce some didn't think it would be. How things have changed in a decade.
