2. Why?
Are they the only game in town?

Their products are inferior, period.

3. oh come on people don't be mean
Admit it, it's cool walking through Home Depot and imagining all the stuff you're gonna do to your house.

The conservation movement is a breeding ground of communists
and other subversives. We intend to clean them out,
even if it means rounding up every birdwatcher in the country.

8. Have to agree with you
They just opened in my town which is quite rural. I went in to look around. I kept seeing a woman looking at all the stuff. She appeared to be in her 70's and she was in heaven - a big grin on her face and she was having fun.
She was flipping through the samples of carpets, tiles and all kinds of things and every time I saw her - I had to smile too!

Then again - I know a woman who takes a thermos of wine, a girfriend or her daughter and looks through the wallpaper samples for an evening of fun. But what's wrong with that?

15. They don't sell their "own products."
I'm not sure what you mean by that. They resell the large names. They do have some Home Depot label things, but not much. It's the same stuff you buy at Loews or Price Club.

18. We have a LOT of Home Depot-label things
Such as:

Millstead lumber
Midwest Air Technologies chainlink fence parts and masonry/drywall tools
Traffic Master flooring
Behr paint
Work Force tools
Husky mechanic's tools
Ridgid woodworking tools
Pegasus sinks
Glacier Bay sinks and toilets
GE water heaters--we're the only ones with that brand
Commercial Electric electrical products
Hampton Bay lighting and ceiling fans
Thomasville Cabinetry
Masonite doors
American Craftsman vinyl windows

There's also a brand of lawn mower parts and three brands of window treatments that I do not remember, sorry.

17. A stove bolt is basically a big machine screw with a slot in the head
A carriage bolt has a square thing under the head that locks into a square indentation in the piece so it won't turn when you torque it down, and it has a smooth, rounded head.

7. Old growth lumber
Edited on Sun Feb-13-05 09:14 PM by KT2000
Home Depot just opened a store in the rural area where I live. My friend says they exploit workers and I shouldn't shop there.
But I heard that they quit selling lumber that comes from old growth forests because of Greenpeace efforts.

Their grand opening was for 3 hours in the evening and 4,000 people showed up - that is 2,000 less than the town where it is located.

Do they offer free samples like Costco?

10. i buy alot of stuff from home depot. and some from lowes.
Edited on Sun Feb-13-05 09:33 PM by KG
i do handyman/home improvement work on the side. tho i go to smaller local owned places sometimes, i just don't have the time or patience to go to several smaller places to get stuff i can get in one trip to the big box stores.

what i don't understand is why these boxes feel the need to open stores across the street from each other. what's up with that?
