Honda Civic or Toyota Corolla?
Everyone seems to be intensely loyal to one or the other.

Anyone had both so you can compare?

I've never had a car that small----will I like it?

Is September the best time to buy? I want a new one,not used.

Thanks all!!!!!!

2. I've had both
The Corolla burned out clutches awfully fast I found. I bought a Honda Civic and owned 2 more after that. Now I have an Accord and I love it! Best car I've ever owned! :D

5. I have had both Honda's and Toyota's...
and hands down the better car is Honda. The Toyota dealers my wife and I have dealt with have been arrogant. We have a 1996 Honda 4 cyl, 5 speed with 135,000 miles on it and it is still running strong. It also has the original clutch which will be needing replacement soon. I have had two Toyota's and one was a lemon. I never got satisfaction from the dealer. My advice is go with Honda, you won't go wrong.

6. I've had both
a base model Carolla sedan and a Civic SI. The Corolla was definitely the better car even though it was older and had much higher milage. OTOH, since they were old, that probably doesn't mean much in helping your decision.

Make sure you look up the crash test ratings, I think the Carolla's are better but I'm not positive. Also, try to find the theft rates for your area, around here Civics are one of the most stolen cars, probably because the street racers want them for parts.

12. I love my Honda!
But get lo-jack! The new Hondas have theft deterrent features built in, because they are stolen so often, but even these can be circumvented.

One of my neighbors had a Honda that was a few years older than mine, and it took them a few attempts, but someone finally stole it. It even had an alarm.

What can I say? Even the bad guys love a Honda! :)

19. Ours was stolen 3 times, even though it was old and ugly
It was recovered out of gas and minus a stereo each time.

I know the new ones are harder to break into, LeftyDad spent an hour trying to help a lady get into hers after she locked herself out, without any luck.

7. yes we;ve had both -- Toyota Corolla is better
I won't bore you with the story but just stick with the Corolla.

LIKE it. You'll love it.

8. I thought I was going to
need to get a replacement car this past week (accident, turns out my car can be fixed) so I was test-driving various small cars.

Now I only drive a stick, so if you're for an automatic only, what I say won't apply, but I loved the Honda Civic. It clutched and changed gears very, very smoothly. The Toyotas I test drove bucked and hitched in first gear, which really irritated me. Shouldn't happen, not to someone who's been driving a stick for forty years.

So test drive both.

Small is good. You're more in control than in a big car.

And don't forget to test drive.

I have no idea if September is a good or bad time to buy.

Good luck!

16. I agree -- Honda manual transmissions are very smooth.
I have had Toyotas and Hondas -- both are great cars and I don't think you can go wrong with either.

10. Look and test drive both BUT
Edited on Sun Feb-13-05 11:59 PM by serryjw
always BUY a car the LAST DAY OF THE MONTH! You will get the best price. They have to meet their quoters to get next month's allowance and will negotiate to get the sale. They won't let you leave the dealership if they think they can make a sale. Don't know where you live but NEVER buy a car in a BIG city. DRIVE 60 miles away to a small dealership THEY NEED YOUR BUSINESS!

I had a '70 & '75 TOY never a Honda and liked them both. Have fun, it's nice buying a new car. I LOVE THE MINI...It will be my next car!

11. I made this decision 6 months ago...
..we got the Civic.

But it was a really close call and came down to price. We did own a Corolla a few years ago. So far I've been impressed with the Civic. It's my first Honda.

15. I've heard that.
I think a lot of Hondas and Acuras are made in Marysville, OH, if I'm not mistaken.

17. Toyota Corolla
Of course, both Hondas and Toyotas are some of the most reliable cars out there, so they are both good choices.

My mom has had 3 Hondas and is fine with them.

I am on my 2nd Toyota, and it's a Corolla. I bought it over the summer, so it's a 2004. I LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have a 4-dour stick shift. One thing I especially like about the new model is that the body looks like a high-end sedan. It looks very, very nice indeed. And I don't think the same can be said of the Honda Civic.

Go Corolla!!

21. I drove my Honda Civic from coast to coast including to the edge of the
Grand Canyon. The car never failed me except for two flat tires on the way back from the Grand Canyon (I took a 22-mile dirt road to the west rim so I can drive to the edge of the canyon and take a photo)

Corolla wins hands down. Spend your money on a prius...better gas mileage, better on the environment, same firepower, more room for stuff.
