I have just had a terrible day and it may not be over

Just got all my student aid in, exhausted all my scholarship possibilities plus I have to drop a class to go part-time and I still do not have enough to pay tuition. Not to mention that I cannot pay my bills and may get my electricity shut off. I may have to drop out or something. I would like to thank Mr. Bush for bankrupting my state and increasing my tuition while reducing all of the student loans and grants I rely on to barely afford college anyway.

I could not be any more disappointed or angry than I am right now.

It's absolutely true that the tax cut costs the average Joe/Josephine a lot more than it gave them.

And remember, it's the Joe/Josephine Jrs. that will end up having to pay for this years down the road when the deficit spending gets out of control. A tax cut during a time of deficits is not a tax cut... it's a loan.

4. Have you talked to Financial Aid about...

an emergency loan. I know my best friend had to do that several times while she was at University of Texas. You might want to see if your schools Fin Aid department does them. They aren't a great solution but they're a solution.

5. student loans?

i know it will suck to be in debt (trust me i know from first hand experience) with student loan debt, but have you looked into student loans. they are usually available to all independent students (ie those over 23, or those younger no longer declared on parents returns)

also what school do you go to? private or state school?
once again it will suck not to be able to go to your college of choice, but if the choice is no school or switching to a cheaper school (state or community college) i think the choice is obvious.

I strongly believe we have to get increased student aid, find a way to reduce the cost of college. but that is not likely under the current regime. why should he care, momma and dada bush had all the money in the world to buy him a seat at harvard.

7. And the College aid was NOT that good to begin with

My Older sister, who went to college in the 1960s, had the same problem, ran out of money and had to drop out of school (She needed like something like 5 more credits to graduate, took her another 8 years to get the degree, four of them in the US Navy).

I was a few years younger and received most of the Benefits of the increased college aid in the early 1970s, and even I had to borrow money to pay for college (and I lived at home with my parents).

Even that level of aid was gone under Reagan (He converted almost all of the previous grants to Loans to save money). By the time I went to Law School in the late 1980s it was all loans and even than you had to take out loans over and above what college aid the state and feds provided (and again I had to work to pay for some of my Tuition).

Even this was cut by Bush I, and now Bush II has cut it even more. I do not know how most kids are doing it today.

9. I maxed out my student loan limit

I don't have anything coming to cover an emergency loan so I was turned down for that, and I just was turned down for a private loan as well. Maybe I can get one with a co-signer, that's my next step. My brother owes me cash and if he can't send it, I am in deep shit for a few weeks. I may be able to get an emergency grant, however, through the Native American student affairs center. Options are dwindling though. Although, I have a knack for figuring things out and getting by in the end.

11. Have you ever considered trying to study abroad?

If you have to drop out, you might want to look at picking up your programme again in Canada (plug plug). Tuitions, although they've gone up in recent years, are still cheaper than even state college tuitions, plus right now, you get 25% more tuition for your dollar, so for every $1000 CDN in tuition you have to pay, it actually costs you $750 US. Also, many of the programmes are as good or better than programmes in the US, and some are definitely world-class. Depending on where you go, costs of living are cheaper, too. (If you go from a rural area to downtown Toronto, your COL will go up. If you go from NYC to the university here in my home town, your COL will go way, way down.)

There are also a lot of other scholarships available for international students interested in going abroad (other places besides Canada, too), and the experience is, um, broadening.

13. Yeah, I am debating taking my Master's in another country

I might look into other places even sooner though. If I can get resident tuition I will be ok, but I was turned down right before the semester started. That makes a huge difference right off.

rep and both sens in detail and BEG for any info of programs which might help. Also call them and reference your letter or EMail.

Might just pop something loose and will definitely make you feel a bit more empowered.

Send copy to local paper and their responses if any.
