If you could "steal" the singing voice of anyone who would it be?
and why?

For me it would be Janis Joplin. She doesn't have the voice of an angel but she sounds like she's been to hell and back. Nobody could sing the blues like her.

Now it's your turn...

1. John Lennon.
Not a technically great voice by any measure, but an expressive, beautiful voice. And he had a good vocal range compared to a lot of rock singers.

I would want to sing like Aaron Neville.

But since I am a girl, I would say Judy Garland. Or Susan Tedeski.

I wouldn't adopt his later style of music (I like The Police better), but his natural voice has an incredible range.

37. Before I clicked on your thread, I had my answer ready.
Janis Joplin.

I saw her in concert a few months before she died. I have all her music, too. I have the CDs, of course, but I have the original vinyl, too. I love Janis.

38. I'm female so
I pick Etta James.
If I were male, Jackie Wilson. To me his is the best voice I 've ever heard. It's good if you listen to more than just his popular rock and roll type records to really appreciate his voice. It's just amazing to hear him sing "Danny Boy".

I'd give a close second to Roy Orbison. Incredible!

50. Jerry Garcia - but only if I can have his guitar ability too :)
Especially in his younger years, Jerry had this ability to convey what seemed like two emotions with his voice at any given time. When he was sing a sad ballad, you could hear the hope and joy for the future in the undertones and the happy songs could be laced with sounds of tragedy.

And, I agree wholeheartedly with your Janis choice too. And believe it or not, she could sing damn near angelically when she chose to, which was pretty rare. Here preference was blues, but I've heard recordings of her doing old folk tunes and such where she sounded fantastic.
