3. he did a lot of tv themes/movie scores
he was quite a funky cat in the 70s.

if i'm not mistaken, the theme to the streets of san francisco is one his compositions as well.

cf. quincy jones (sanford and son, ironside).

4. I know he did the theme music to "Newhart"
Which I think was one of his best, actually. :-)

I didn't know that about "What's Happening!". Hmmmm.

5. It's taken me about 12 hours to get somebody interested in this.
I bought a CD of TV theme songs and saw Mancini's name for "What's Happening!!!"

It floored me. That is not typical Mancini at all. It impressed upon me how versatile he really was.

And yes, "Newhart" is a beautiful theme song.

6. Yeah, he covered quite a few musical genres.
"What's Happening". Jazz - the theme from "Peter Gunn" and "The Pink Panther".

I'd love to find a cd of his complete work....television and films. Such great stuff. Still, "Moon River" is my favorite Mancini composition.
