Ok, Sports Fans, Gather 'round and let me tell you a little 'bout Skynard.
I started out in my 27 years in the music business working for Blackfoot. Sheeit, if you know southern rock, you know Blackfoot. In fact, the only person presently in Skynard, who doesn't have to be a ninja to sneak up on a glass of water to get a drink is Ricky Medlock(Real spelling. He now spells it "Rickey Medlocke" for reasons I cannot fathom...). He was an original member of Blackfoot, something he runs away from. He's fucking weird like that. Blackfoot may have been the best of them all. They coulda been champeens, except for one terrible manager. A real crook.

I knew those guys. I knew a lot of the guys. In fact, the last time I ran into Hughie Thomasson(Ex-Outlaws, present Skynard), we sat around for 2 hours talking about how few of us were left alive from those days. Alive, or sane.

I knew those guys. They were dirt poor Jacksonville kids who loved RC Cola with Salted peanuts in it(called a "Merr"), Black Music, Shorty Medlock, bluegrass and getting really, really drunk. Not necessarily in that order. They went to Lee High School, IIRC. Well, Blackfoot did, that I am sure about.

Now, they were not, I repeat NOT racist. Period. Wouldn't touch a black person, but if you were white, they would stomp a mudhole in your ass and walk it dry. For any reason or no reason at all. Then, they would pass you the Jack bottle and give you a bump.

If they are supporting Bush now, it is because Jax is a military town and they always supported the military. It's a Jax thing. But back then, none of them boys were into the war. Against it completely and avoided it like the plague.

Sheesh. You guys are too excitable sometimes.

3. Well, on the record...
Edited on Mon Feb-14-05 02:03 AM by Tandalayo_Scheisskop
That was just some session musician. On the live album, that's Shorty.

Damn, if you thought it was good on the record, you shoulda heard it in a club called "The Searchlight" in Stanhope NJ. ;-)

But hey, the were a great cover band too. They had the balls to cover Move songs like "Message from the Country". That takes guts.

5. salted peanuts in rc?
all those years growing up drinking rc and eating salted peanuts and i never thought of combining the two!
those were the transition years-when good ole boys decided us hippies were not that bad and joined in the fun. maybe a little too rowdy for us laided back hippies but they always seemed to weigh in if we were given shit in a bar or on the street. they always had something to drink and we always had weed.....
