Who else is bitter and alone this Valentine's Day?
OK, maybe I'm not really bitter. I would rather be alone than in some of my past relationships. But dammit, I want someone to love on me today too. I want someone to smother with attention.

I've been out with this guy twice recently, but it is not exactly a Valentine's Day kind of romance yet. I should plan better.

2. you do need that trip to Hawaii then
if you have opposite schedules. It will be great to have that time together. Maybe a baby McD will come about.

3. Just another day
Today is just another day....my wife and I agreed on this many years ago. We're coming up on 30 years together and we've never celebrated this day. It's a crappy commercial invention and we have no use for it.

No reason to feel bitter or depressed unless you want to.....

4. I don't give a damn about any holiday
I guess I am lucky - for example, people act like being alone on Christmas is the worst thing in the world - not only was I alone, I didn't get a single present AND I had to work that night! But the only thing I found painful was having to read the woe-is-me stories of some DUers who suffer real angst because of these things!

8. I'm not *really* depressed about it
Sure, I'd like someone to share live with. Like I said, I would much rather be alone than in a bad relationship. I'm not going to settle for someone just to avoid being alone. That would really make me sad.

7. I'm sorry, dude
For the last eight years, I would have been right here with you, saying the same thing. I was a confirmed bachelor but Valentines Day (and other holidays) always got me a little choked up. Then, last March I stumbled across this guy who's way too good for me, and I've managed to keep him around for the last year. Like you said, though, you'd rather be alone than in some of the bad relationships. I understand that. The right one'll come along when it's meant (never thought I'd be the one saying that).

Boy your lovin' is all I think about
I just can't get sniffa out of my head
Boy it's more than I dare to think about

Every night, every day
Just to be there in sniffa's arms
Won't you stay

18. got this line in an e-mail from a friend this morn. . .
"and hey, Happy Valentine's Day... holy Hallmark... let's celebrate the martyrdom of an early Roman Christina priest who chose to marry couples in secret... " Thought it was fairly apt.

I'm not bitter either. But I do share with you the situation of having met someone recently who is amazing and having had only three encounters, am experiencing some residual awkwardness over what is appropriate behavior in respect to this totally contrived holiday. We'll have another rendevous on Thursday. Is it Thursday yet? Is it Thursday yet?

24. I am morally opposed to Valentine's Day
Edited on Mon Feb-14-05 02:35 PM by darboy
It serves to depress those who are single, and on top of that it encourages the equating of love with receiving of material goods.

My senior year of college I held a "valentine's day sucks" party, with lots of booze. it was well attended because seven couples in my co-ed fraternity (w/a membership of about 20-25 at the time)had broken up the week before.
