The job saga continues
So, I go to work this morning...boss lady calls and tells me that the temp (that I'm supposed to believe is there to work WITH me) will be coming at 11:00, and I should leave at 10:30. Does this woman really think I'm THAT stupid? This is twice now that I've been sent home at 10:30, and no, I don't get paid for the rest of the day. If you've been following this saga, should I go ahead and start making phone calls now?

2. Well, I'm not going to quit
Just not gonna do it. She'll have to run me off, for sure. I have a family to feed! Of course, it's hard to do that when she send me home after 2 1/2 hours of work.

5. I didn't say QUIT!
but you do need to look for a new job. As you said; You have a family to feed and you can't do that if you don't get paid/

8. You're telling me!
If it weren't for the little mouths, I would have walked a long time ago. These people are insane. Not only that, but all of that sheetrock dust from the never-ending remodel is just not good for my asthma.

12. Great idea!
I live in a suburb of Houston. I'm Microsoft Certified in Word and Excel, fully functioning in PowerPoint, and have built my own Access databases, complete with functioning queries and pretty reports that generate. (Access is my most recent adeventure, the others I've known for years.)

Most of my experience is in the areas of industrial, oil and gas, and construction, but through years of working temp, I've pretty much touched a little of everything.

3. Sounds like its time for a new job.
Just ask her your status. Tell her you need to work, not be sent home after working two hours. It is clear your on your way out, it sounds like she is going to try to starve you out by not allowing you to earn enough to stay.

6. Right to Work state, I assume?
If so, your only recourse is to seek employment elsewhere.

11. Yep. I left Houston over a similar policy at work....
When I was employed in Houston, we were told that starting immediately, our workweek would begin on a Friday, and end on Thursday. Seems innocent until you factor in that we worked a lot of weekends.

When I protested because, I said, "You'll have us work a weekend if you need us, then make us stay home on Wednesdays and Thursdays so you won't have to pay us OT!", I was told....

"No. That's not the reason. We'd would never let that happen."

We'll, 4 months later....it happened. And happened again and again. So I resigned and moved back to Illinois. Too bad really. I liked my job, and my coworkers were the greatest.

Good Luck!!

13. Oh, that is dirty!
That's definitely not the case here. They want me out, that's no secret (I guess they think it is!)...I figure that the first time I was sent home at 10:30, it was so they could interview temps. Boss lady said she'd call me over the weekend, but never did...guess they didn't like anybody they talked to on that Friday. Last week, she did tell me that she was going to get a temp to work WITH me, but was unclear as to how both of us would use the same computer and desk. So, today, she tells me that the temp is coming at 11, and should leave at 10:30. OK, two things here: 1. If we were really supposed to work together, wouldn't it make sense for me to be there on her first day so I could show her what's going on? 2. Why did I have to leave thirty minutes in advance? Was Boss Lady afraid that I'd say something like "Welcome to Hell!" when the girl walked in???

9. To clarify....the phone calls I referred to weren't about other jobs
They are to throw the repugs into the fire. Should I start now, or wait until they actually tell me to disappear from their sight? I figure, tomorrow's payday, that's when it will happen.
