10. I sang that one to my kids when they were little
to get them to sleep. I still remember my son saying "Mommy, sing rainbow!"

6. I was going to say the Stones' "She's a Rainbow",
but nothing can compete with this one. I agree: Best Rainbow Song.

I heard Jewel do a great version of it. It was in a PBS special stage version of Wizard of Oz with Jackson Brown, when she was first starting out. It's just timeless.

18. Me too especially from Wizard of Oz..............
Over The Rainbow
(Arlen-Harburg)

Somewhere over the rainbow
Way up high
There's a land that I heard of
Once in a lullaby

Somewhere over the rainbow
Skies are blue
And the dreams that you dare to dream
Really do come true

Some day I'll wish upon a star
And wake up where the clouds are far behind me
Where troubles melt like lemondrops
Away above the chimney tops
That's where you'll find me

Somewhere over the rainbow
Bluebirds fly
Birds fly over the rainbow
Why then, oh why can't I?
Some day I'll wish upon a star
And wake up where the clouds are far behind me
Where troubles melt like lemondrops
Away above the chimney tops
That's where you'll find me

Somewhere over the rainbow
Bluebirds fly
Birds fly over the rainbow
Why then, oh why can't I?

If happy little bluebirds fly
Beyond the rainbow
Why, oh why can't I?

4. She Breaks 4 Rainbows- The B-52's
Here comes Brenda
Brenda Holiday
Though she hasn't that much to say

She knows where the rain goes
She breaks
She breaks for rainbows

Fly Brenda
Fly Brenda

Window in the weather
Flowers in her hair
Footprints on the ceiling
How did they get there

She knows where the rain goes
She breaks
She breaks for rainbows

19. Absolutely!! It was also in the closing credits for "Meet Joe Black" and
... in "Finding Forester," too. It just raises my gooseflesh and brings tears to my eyes every time I hear it. Awesome. I bought it on his CD for that single arrangement. He died in 1997. Izzy was terrific!

20. Over the Rainbow
especially, at the moment, Eva Cassidy's version.

The lyrics supposedly have political significance. E.Y. Harburg was expressing hope for America emerging from the Great Depression.

In 2001 Judy Garland's recording of "Over The Rainbow" was voted as the number one "Song of the Century" in a poll conducted by the National Endowment for the Arts and the Recording Industry Association of America. In 2004 her version of "Over The Rainbow" was voted the Number One Movie Song by the American Film Institute.

22. Eva Cassidy (RIP) was awesome. She had such enormous promise.
I have a couple of her albums and they're wonderful.

Israel Kamakaiwo'ole, however, did the really definitive arrangement.

There's a rainbow in the sky
So let's have another cup of coffee
And let's have another piece of pie.

27. Where I live, there are rainbows
http://allthingshawaiian.com/icq-hawaii.html

Where I live, there are rainbows
With life in the laughter of morning
and starry nights
Where I live, there are rainbows
and flowers full of colors
and birds filled with song
I can smile when it's raining
And touch the warmth of the sun
I hear children laughing
in this place, that I love

because the most delightful and talented female I know, a Hawai'i expat, sang it to me -- just for me! -- right before I left NYC for the sacred 'aina. :loveya: Oh yes, she's very progressive (LIHOP), too... (sigh)

In terms of songs you would have actually heard, there's always Bruddah IZ' rendition of "Somehwere Over The Rainbow".
