what do YOU do for a living?
Just curious... i notice many of you are able to post here regularly throughout the day.

What do you do for a living?

.. I'm a desktop support tech for Hewlett-Packard. (not phone support, i'm the guy who actually goes to their desk and FIXES their problem.. hardware or software)

1. I'm the whole IT department for my company :)
Have about 60 computer users total, and I do everything from helpdesk to network administration to desktop support.

:)

3. that's awesome. we've got about 15,000 users here...
but we have about 25 in-house technicians. i'd much rather work for a smaller company although i'm not much of a network admin!

32. If you can do desktop support, you can do network admin :)
Just take the time to learn the OS and read up on active directory, etc. It's not too bad.

45. Heh Heh, I do the same thing..have you ever heard this....
"I did not DO anything to the computer"

Or

"I was not doing anything, it just happened"

OR

"I didn't do it"

The above statements of course being the first thing that comes out of their mouth's, no Hello, no Hi, how are ya.

My last answer to that question when a desktop was acting most bizarre (complete database bizarro non-reactions) was "Damn that computer fairy for setting the computer date to January 24, 2060 to torment you."

You would not believe how long it took me to find out this was the issue, after going after all the usual suspects.

2. Blue collar guy here
sort of a jack of all trades. I operate heavy equipment, load rail cars and trucks, do general clean up, and help out maintenance. And I work 12 hour shifts, but only three or four days a week, depending on which week it is. So I have a lot of free time to post my drivel here on Democratic Underground.

33. I take different contracts, most lately are the Voice Response
systems. I will record anywhere from 800 to 3,000= prompts for a single application. I did radio in HS and some in college. These jobs make it easier to work around my kids schedules. Radio is much more demanding.
