I am not a racist, I am not "defending" myself, AND I don't feel any more guilty about anything outside the conduct of my personal life than you do about the demise of African fly-tail swallows or the dead in Hiroshima. I feel terrible that my government is engaged in a war that has cost well over a hundred thousand lives, but I conduct my personal life in a way to openly resist participating in it or condoning it. I don't commit to charity in my community to support people because they're black or mexican or gay, but because they're poor and I don't give a crap what color they are.

Anyway, human rights "guilt" is not confined to national borders if you're looking for something to be guilty about.

Finally, and finally the idea of reparations is absolutely the stupidest thing I have ever heard fall from the lips of a fellow liberal.

I missed those threads, but I don't doubt a lot of people are like that on DU. Only the small group of angry feminists who think divorce and castration are the answers to every male problem make me feel uncomfortable. That's ok though, you have to expect that on the left sometimes.

I will point out that the many of the worst forms of systemic discrimination are targeted at all low-income people regardless of race. That doesn't mean we should deny that racism is still a problem, of course.

This image was produced by white people, not me or any other person of color. It was not produced for the purposes of DU threads. The reaction is produces is interesting. The image suggests a white person under seige by black people. That's a pretty accurate depiction of the sentiment often expressed on DU, including in the post to which I am responding. I have to admit, I am completely stumped by your responses -- almost as stumped by Johnny in this game of Pictionary.

The picture at the top of the thread would be interpreted by the vast majority of people as offensive to Africans, and perhaps black people in general. I post it because in today's times it is funny and thought-provoking in a retro sort of way.

I joked in the "reverse disrimination" threads about how persecuted i felt, but it was a joke. But i don't have any white guilt. I've never been part of the problem! So, i've got nothing about which to feel guilty.

I'm only against reparations (check that thread and you'll see my tome) because i don't think there's any way to make it work financially or logistically.

The broad brush you're using here would seem, indeed, to be linked to the true root problem. Something to consider when you smear the whole of us.
